Chinnor claimed a landmark 52–33 victory over Bedford Blues at Goldington Road in Round 2 of the Elior Champ Rugby season, producing a dominant attacking display built on precision, tempo and a superb forward platform.

The visitors struck inside three minutes when Alun Walker finished from a rolling maul — the first of his outstanding hat‑trick. Bedford responded quickly through Tommy Herman after their own maul, but Chinnor’s pace and accuracy kept them in front. Tom Watson powered through for Chinnor’s second, only for Bedford’s prolific winger Dean Adamson to dive over moments later for his 100th career try at Goldington Road.

Barely a minute passed before Jack Metcalf danced into the opposite corner, restoring Chinnor’s lead in a breathless first half. Bedford battled on but Ben Currie crossed on 37 minutes for the try of the match after some sustained pressure from Bedford in the Chinnor 22. A Bedford loose pass was snatched by Richie Simpson who sprinted to half way, a nice one two with Jack Metcalf, off load to Tom Watson who found Ben Currie hitting a delightful line from deep - after making the initial tackle in his own 22 - for a try of the season contender.

Walker’s second try on 40 minutes sent Chinnor into the break deservedly ahead, despite Bedford’s efforts to stay in touch.

The second half belonged to Chinnor. Callum Pascoe controlled the tempo superbly, while Walker completed his hat‑trick on 56 minutes. Will Cave powered over between the posts from short range on 44 minutes and Liam Richman added the extras after a fine league debut. Chinnor's bench added impetus. Richie Simpson dotted down after a quick switch in play and pass from Metcalf on 66 minutes before James Lennon nicked a consolation try on the 81st‑minute.

Chinnor’s eight‑try performance showcased their attacking depth: Walker’s maul dominance, Watson’s power, Metcalf’s footwork and Simpson’s finishing combined to overwhelm Bedford, who struggled with discipline and defensive cohesion. The 52–33 result marks a statement victory and Chinnor’s first win of the campaign - a prized triumph on notoriously challenging away turf.

So, a scintillating performance to mark Harry Dugmore's 50th cap for the club, made all the more special as captain on this historic day. The 2nd round match also saw five debutants for Chinnor. Ben Currie starting on the wing, Liam Richman at fly-half, George Wacokecoke at outside centre, and off the bench we were introduced to the mighty James Johnston (JJ) at tight head prop and the dynamic Josh Du Toit at openside flanker.

With the new points scoring system Chinnor claimed maximum points, 4 for the win and a try bonus point for scoring 3 more tries than the opposition. Bedford would've gained a point for scoring 4+ tries in previous seasons but not in the 2026/27 season. Losing teams by 7 points or less still receive a losing bonus points.

Round 3 Preview: Caldy vs Chinnor – Saturday 3 October
Chinnor now travel to Caldy on Saturday 3 October, aiming to build momentum from their Goldington Road heroics. With their attack firing and confidence restored, Nick Easter’s men will look to impose the same tempo and accuracy on the Wirral. Caldy’s physicality and home advantage will pose a stern test, but Chinnor enter Round 3 with belief — and a growing sense that their season is beginning to click.
