Brockschmidt, Darlington, Lines, Manning & Ryan re-sign for 2023/24

CHINNOR RFC Thame is thrilled to announce the re-signings of a quintet of key forwards for next season.

Conor Brockschmidt, Mark Darlington, Keston Lines, Ben Manning and Willie Ryan have all committed to the Club for the 2023/24 campaign.

This news comes just a few days after Nick Easter was confirmed to be staying on as our Director of Rugby and is another positive announcement heading into our First XV's final National 1 match of the season at home to Darlington Mowden Park this Saturday.

Brockschmidt, who has played the majority of his 42 caps at lock, is a blindside flanker by trade and has been a near ever-present since joining in October 2020. The South African powerhouse has impressed with his physical and commanding performances, and we hope to see him fully recovered soon from a hamstring injury.

No doubt another popular re-signing is hooker Darlington. Since rejoining Chinnor in January last year, Darlo has been outstanding - producing many moments to savour - and his love for scrummaging shines through. Now retired from international duty with the Netherlands, we will be seeing even more of him at Kingsey Road and we look forward to him adding to his 66 appearances and 13 tries.

Loosehead prop Lines has been outstanding this season - his second with the Club - and is currently on an 11-match run of starting appearances, where he has completed 80 minutes on seven occasions. Having established himself in the front row, Kest now has 44 matches under his belt and it will be great to see him pulling on the No 1 jersey again next season.

If there is a player who is Chinnor through and through, it is our captain, Manning. Although this season has been hampered by injury, 2024 will be Benji's tenth year at Chinnor and in that time he has been a part of many memorable moments, including that try in the National 2 play-off. We're pleased to hear that the back row forward is making good progress following elbow surgery and with 179 caps to his name, the big 200 is firmly in his sights.

And last but not least is another Club stalwart in Ryan. Willie has produced another season full of outstanding bullish performances - you only have to look back at Saturday's man-of-the-match display at Bishop's Stortford for a display which epitomises the Irishman. Our vice skipper - who has made 76 appearances over three spells - is another firm favourite with our members and one of the best No 8s in the division.

Director of Rugby, Easter, commented: "I'm delighted that these players have all re-signed. They bleed for the Club and ultimately have been rewarded for their performances over the season. I have been highly impressed that all of these players, irrespective of age, are hungry to continue to improve - this mindset will help drive the standards amongst the group for next season."
