Twickenham bound this coming Saturday with Chinnor's Goodfellow in charge

The Bill Beaumont County Championship has a been another great success this year for Oxfordshire Men's squad. With the team being represented by no less than 7 different teams from all over the county it's been a great buy-in by all eligible clubs.

Stepping up to Division 2 after last year's win and promotion was always going to be a tough challenge, and after winning two out of 3 pool games reaching the final this season seemed to have slipped away. However, a bonus point win against Warwickshire and Staffordshire losing in their pool meant the team took the spot of best runner up.

Semi-Final Play-off:
That then took the team to Gloucestershire, a county steeped in history and tradition into a semi final battle. Led by non other than one of Gloucestershire greats and a legend of Cinderford RFC, Paul Morris, Gloucestershire were always going to be a formidable force. But Oxfordshire this season have a never back down attitude and a team bond like they've played together for years which shone through and helped the side reach a 29-17 win taking them to the final at Twickenham.

Goodfellow added:
"3 finals in 3 years and twice winning Division 3 could see Oxfordshire enter the history books by getting a result at Twickenham this weekend against Cheshire."

"We as a county and squad are under no illusion on how tough a task we have in front of us. Funnily enough in my last game playing county for Cornwall we faced Cheshire in a division 1 final where we run out winners. Could fate repeat itself as head coach?"

"Whatever happens I'm extremely proud of the squad and the other coaches who have worked so hard this season."

It should be a great day for all involved. The Division 2 final kicks off at 11am at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday 15th June. Please pop down and support Greg and the team.

Best wishes.

Greg Goodfellow, is the Head Coach of Oxfordshire Men's.
