We catch up with our Wildboys & Outlaws Head Coach

HEAD coach Frank Jones says he is looking forward to a fun season with our Wildboys and Outlaws.

Our Men's 3rd XV start their Counties 1 Southern North campaign on September 3 with a trip to Reading Abbey, while our 4th XV travel to Stow-on-the-Wold 2nd on September 17 in Counties 4 BBO South.

Breaking new ground this year, Chinnor Wildboys are now in the seventh tier of English rugby, with ten of the 12 sides in their division being First XVs.

Frank - affectionately known as 'Horse' - has been named as Head Coach, with Sam Angell combining his playing duties with that of Backs Coach, and he is looking forward to the matches getting started.

"It should be a really fun season," said the 34-year-old.

"They're a good bunch of players. We want to be serious when we need to be, but at the same time you've got to keep everyone happy and make sure they're enjoying it - that's what it's all about it.

"A lot of the boys, especially the Outlaws, are here to play social rugby and have fun, so you've got to get that balance."

The players have been training hard, with sessions at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Frank is feeling good for the season.

"We've been really impressed so far," said the former scrum-half, who made more than 100 appearances for our First XV.

"The boys have been really committed and training really well. Greg Goodfellow (First XV player and Falcons Head Coach) came down a few weeks ago and they really got their heads down, learning a lot from that session.

"We're not over confident going into the season - you can't be like that. We just want to get a few league games under our belts and try to improve from there."

Our Wildboys and Outlaws players are set to be involved this weekend, forming a part of the Lauren's XV team to play Blackheath 2nd at Kingsey Road as the Lauren Cyster Megabowl Trophy returns.

If you would like to play amateur rugby at Chinnor RFC Thame, all abilities are welcome and we encourage you to attend a training session. You can find out more information by clicking HERE.
