Nottingham arrive at Kingsey Road on Friday night in buoyant mood for their first ever match at Chinnor RFC. Last time out the Archers put Cambridge to the sword with a devastating second half display which saw them rack up 61 points. This was a welcome return to form for Nottingham who had been severely disrupted by injuries since Christmas. Since beating Doncaster Nottingham's depleted team lost 8 matches in a row, although that did include Leicester Tigers twice and Ealing. However they now have many of their injured star players back and the ranks have been swelled further this week with 5 Tigers in the squad . This will mean the Archers will be extremely confident in keeping their uptick in form running.
Chinnor will be fully aware of the threat Nottingham's back 3 pose, having been victim of a blistering 15 minute spell in December where the pace and skill of Captain Williams and Olowofela created 3 quick fire tries. These eventually were the difference in a closely fought encounter which saw the Archers come away 19-15 winners. James Cherry at number 8 is a real running threat and he'll be helped out with former England U20 captain and Leicester Tiger Finn Carnduff at blindside. alongside other Tigers Thomas and Manz in the second row. At 10 the talented Matt Arden dictates play. Matt had a couple of impressive cameos for Chinnor last season.
Over the years Nottingham have been the beneficiary of Chinnor's production line of young talent. Scott Hall had several superb years at Nottingham having come through mini, junior and senior debut before returning home this season. Further back Will Millet travelled north after a stellar early career at Chinnor. A real force of nature at 10 or 12 the young Millet was a real triple threat midfield maestro, combined with a strong will to win. His last gasp touchline conversion away at Redruth to snatch the match at the death having trailed by 20 points with 5 minutes remaining was a highlight- Hell Fire Corner and a certain Scottish 9 have never been so quiet! Further back still Ben Thompson was another multi talented midfield back who was a key part of Chinnor's SW1Championship winning team as an 18 year old. His cartwheel finish in scoring the winning try which sealed the title epitomised his talent and exuberance. After a spell with Exeter Chiefs whilst at University Ben settled in Nottingham and played over 150 matches.
With the weather set for a warm and dry evening all your support will be much appreciated by the squad. Where better to spend a Friday night of Bank Holiday weekend? Cheering on the boys , enjoying the family atmosphere and after match entertainment.
