Ryan Crowley & James Davies join our Chinnor Family

CHINNOR RFC Thame is thrilled to announce the signings of Ryan Crowley and James Davies.

The duo further strengthen our options in the backline as we approach our National League 1 season-opener at home to Sale on September 4.

Crowley, who can play at full-back or on either wing, joins from London Scottish after impressing while on trial during the spring.

The Welshman came through the rugby academy at Cardiff & Vale College and is an aircraft technician in the Royal Air Force.

Crowley caught the eye while playing against Chinnor for the RAF in the 2020 Lauren Cyster Megabowl Trophy and it will be great to see him in our black and white jersey.

He said: “Signing with Chinnor was a no-brainer - they are an extremely well-established side with great ambition for the coming season. Working with the likes of Thorpey (Richard Thorpe, Director of Rugby) and Hampo (Craig Hampson, Head Coach) with all their experience will only improve my own game and make me a better player. I’m extremely excited to see what the season brings and what I can bring to the Club.”

Chinnor RFC Thame Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe added: “Ryan made an immediate impact when he came off the bench against Esher in the home leg of our May friendlies last season. He is an aggressive, powerful player and I am excited to see him challenge for his place in the back three this season where we are fortunate to already have some outstanding players.”

Davies spent five years with Gloucester, making two First XV appearances and playing regularly for the A League side.

The centre, who has a degree in Sports Management, has National League experience, playing in the third and fourth tier for Loughborough Students.

He said: “I am thrilled to sign with Chinnor this year, and join a great group of players. The team is looking very strong and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve on the field.”

Thorpe added: “James Davies is a very exciting addition to our squad. He has a raw natural talent on the field, coupled with a decision-making ability typical of a Premiership academy player. When his opportunity comes in our first team, I am sure he will cause a significant selection issue in a position we are well resourced in.”
