Former Worcester & Ealing winger moves to Thame

CHINNOR RFC Thame is pleased to announce the signing of former Worcester Warriors and Ealing Trailfinders winger Dean Hammond.

The 29-year-old further strengthens our back line, arriving at Kingsey Road with domestic, European and international experience.

Hammond won the Junior World Championships with South Africa in 2012, before landing the U21 Currie Cup with Western Province a year later.

He joined Worcester in 2013 as an academy player and went on to score 29 tries in 81 appearances over the course of nearly seven years at Sixways.

Hammond then made the move to Ealing last summer and played three games, scoring one try, as Trailfinders finished runners-up to Saracens in a curtailed Greene King IPA Championship season.

He is now looking forward to transitioning into semi-professional rugby with Chinnor and has started working for our principal sponsor Rectory Homes, having studied Construction Management at Selborne College.

Dean said: "Chinnor are a well-respected team that is determined to achieve big things in this league. I’m looking forward to meeting the player group and coaching team. I hope to contribute in taking the Club to the next level."

Chinnor RFC Thame Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe added: "We are delighted to have secured Dean as we prepare for a new season in National League 1. He is a first-class player, and will have a huge impact on our Senior Squad. Given so many players in National League 1 will not have played any meaningful rugby for a very long time, Dean brings a 'battle toughness' to the squad following his most recent game against the world-class Saracens in the Championship finals. Welcome to Chinnor, Dean!"
