CHINNOR RFC Thame’s new women’s team has been officially named the Kites.
Launched in July, it had been more than a decade since we were able to field a ladies side, but we are now able to reinforce our commitment of providing inclusive rugby for our community.
Led by Head Coach Fran Ronan, Thursday night training has proved popular so far, while the Club’s girls teams were also invited along to an open session earlier this month.
After much discussion between the players about a name for the women’s team, they took inspiration from a bird of prey we all know too well at Kingsey Road.
Fran said: “It’s exciting to now have our name in place – the Kites. The red kite reintroduction scheme has proven to be one of the greatest conservation success stories of the 20th Century. They are very relevant to the area and can always be spotted around the rugby ground, often perched on the posts! Red kites can also be generally fierce and competitive birds as well, so we felt it all just fitted nicely.”
The Kites train from 7pm on Thursdays, with all abilities welcome. Please email women@chinnor-rfc.com for more information.
