Luke Carter and Greg Goodfellow join our Senior Squad

CHINNOR RFC Thame is pleased to announce the signings of Luke Carter and Greg Goodfellow ahead of the new National League 1 campaign.

The scrum-halves add further competition for the 9 jersey at Kingsey Road, joining Jacob Ham, Joe Pigott and Jack Walsh in the Senior Squad.

Carter arrives at Kingsey Road from London Scottish, having previously captained Hartpury University and made more than 50 starts for Ealing Trailfinders.

The 31-year-old, who has also played for Cinderford, Henley Hawks, Rosslyn Park and Rotherham Titans, cannot wait to get started.

He said: “Chinnor have been a progressive club for a few seasons now. Richard (Thorpe, Director of Rugby) came to me with the Club’s plan and it sounded like an exciting journey I wanted to be a part of. I am looking forward to helping the Club progress and hopefully push for promotion over the coming two seasons.”

Chinnor RFC Thame Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe added: “Luke is a highly experienced player, which includes leadership as captain of Hartpury University. He is a resilient character, and a highly talented player. At 31, he has shown no sign of slowing down, and I am excited to see what impact he will make for us at Kingsey Road this season.”

Goodfellow first joined Chinnor from Redruth in 2015, having racked up more than 100 appearances for the Cornish side.

The former Scotland Under-21 international, who has 90 Chinnor caps to his name and helped the Club to promotion to National League 1 in 2018, is back for the new season.

The 35-year-old, who has also been appointed our Colts Head Coach, is delighted to return and is ready to push on.

He said: "I'm happy to be back. After three seasons, 90 games and six years living in Thame, it's nice to be returning to what is home. New management, new coaches and new faces alongside some familiar ones all present exciting times ahead at Kingsey Road. Personnel may have changed, but the goal has always been the same - to make the Club as welcoming as possible and to push as high as we can in whichever league we compete in. The same as many, I have missed rugby and the amazing people and supporters around the Club and I can't wait to re-connect with everyone when the season gets underway. A big thank you to Simon (Vickers, Chairman) and Thorpey for the opportunity to try to pull on the black and white jersey again. I'm under no illusion of how tough it will be this season, but I'm extremely grateful to be back.”

Thorpe added: “Greg is now a long-standing player at Chinnor. He has racked up a selection of outstanding performances at Kingsey Road during his time with the Club, and I have no doubt we can expect more of the same in the coming season. Greg is truly a part of our Chinnor Family, and I am delighted for him to return to the Senior Squad. Welcome back, Greg!”
