A Special Weekend for the Chinnor Family

A Special Weekend for the Chinnor Family

Nick Stainton20 Apr - 09:20

A fitting tribute, league wins and our minis fun day

What a special weekend in the relative short history of Chinnor RFC.

Saturday was an incredibly emotional day following the passing of CEO, Simon Vickers. Mike Hughes, CRFC Treasurer, set the tone to a packed out 300 strong marquee, describing Simon as 'relentless, driven but also deeply generous' and paying tribute to the contribution he has made over the last 40 years. He also said he'd want a win!

The players and crowd certainly played their part in one of the best atmosphere's experienced at Kingsey Road. A 32-22 victory over Worcester Warriors was a statement win following a poor showing down in Penzance. The players were outstanding. This now sets things up for the final two rounds after a well-deserved rest week as we close in on a playoff place.

The Wildboys won against Bracknell 2's, 69-10, having secured the Counties 1 league title the previous week. The Outlaws followed suit with a decisive away win against Oxford 2's, 14-65, to tie up the Counties 3 league title. An amazing effort from all the squad throughout a memorable season under the stewardship of Cathcart and Wheels.

The club was buzzing again on Sunday morning for the minis fun day, with coaches being bombarded with balls, the tractor run, hot dogs a plenty and some recognition for outstanding behaviour and play, to mark another wonderful season. The U16's boys then played their part with a narrow win against Grove on pitch 1. An appropriate way to mark their last season before moving into Colts rugby.

So, Kingsey Road, was a hub of mixed emotions. It was ultimately a very fitting tribute to Simon and the whole of Chinnor Rugby Club.

Thank you for your continued support and hope to see everyone on May 9th.
