Chinnor produced a sparkling second half performance to take the spoils in an emphatic 36-0 win at a sunny and warm Kinsey Road.
The first half was played in a stop start fashion with neither team able to put any fluency in their game with a plethora of penalties at breakdown and tackle height. Chinnor took the lead after Bourton and Passman linked well in midfield to bring play deep into Sale 22. From the ending lineout Lines crashed over to open the scoring. 5-0. That’s how the half nearly ended with both teams spurning opportunities to score with ill discipline or inaccuracy. On 39 minutes a fine box kick from Carter was athletically taken by Browning who was hit in the air. Feeney pushed play to 5 metres from a pinpoint kick and Captain Alun Walker dotted down from the driving maul. Bourton added the extras for a 12-0 halftime lead.
Chinnor put the hammer down in the second half with four scintillating tries. First Kieran Goss celebrated his 150th game with a trade mark finish after another huge Feeney kick. 17-0.
On 55 minutes Smith showed his jinking skills to round off a superb attack initiated by Bourton. Converted to 21-0
Sale then had their chance to get into the match with a catch and drive and 12 men in the maul. The ball eventually came out with the line at the mercy of 3 Sale attackers. However they managed to obstruct the Chinnor’s defence and the chance went begging.
Sale’s heads seemed to go down from this point and Chinnor capitalised with some outstanding flowing rugby.
A scything Jack Walsh break ended with Passman crashing over on 65 minutes. Bourton converted, 29-0
In the final minute Feeney produced a piece of magic as he received a clearing kick and his counter saw him waltz through the defence to score a wonderful individual try. Bourton converted to finish the scoring 36-0.
A happy Nick Easter said “I was extremely pleased how the boys bounced back after a near miss last week. Against a strong Sale team our defence was massive and our ability to defend the line under pressure was superb. Set-piece was very strong and our backs unleashed in the second half. I was very pleased we put on a show for Gossy’s 150th.”
