Chinnor storm to the title with imperious display at Moseley. Easter's men roared home by huge travelling support.

Chinnor stormed to the National One title on Saturday with a hugely impressive performance in front of an enormous crowd of increasingly frenzied travelling support. The Champions showed the power, pace and precision that has been the hallmark of this tremendous season. After an understandably nervy start against a highly committed and physical opposition Chinnor put on a masterclass of attacking rugby when they amassed an incredible 52 points in 34 minutes of playing time between the 18th and 52nd minute. During this period they were just too hot to handle with numerous sweeping attacks from all angle and ranges. At the heart of this scoring blitz was another towering performance from talismanic Captain Willie Ryan. Time and again he carried into heavy traffic , committing defenders and managing to offload, putting in huge hits and winning several crucial turnovers.

Moseley took the game to Chinnor at the start but were met with a brick wall of defiance and passion. Huge tackles were in abundance and this seemed to diminish the spirit. It took 18 minutes for Chinnor to break the deadlock but this they did in familiar fashion. A deep Feeney touch finder gave Chinnor their first chance to show dominance with the driving maul and this they did with accuracy and power which saw the prolific Alun Walker in he the vanguard to score. 0-5.

Chinnor were on the attack for the restart and a trademark Ryan bust was continued by Hardwick as he surged in the 22 and linked with Worboys, his offload went to ground but was swooped on by an athletic Curry who galloped away, 0-12. Feeney was using the wind well and pinned the hosts deep in their territory. They had to attack form deep and Hughes was on the spot to intercept a Pointon pass to tear 45 metres to the try line. With another Worboys conversion Chinnor were now in wonderland and all nerves had gone with a 0-19 lead after 24 minutes.

The pack was now giving impressive half backs Carter and Worboys a superb platform to show their skillsets and Carter fed the power house Lines to show great footwork and offloading skills that put Brocksmidt away. Quick recycled ball and Bourton fed his midfield partner Passman to cross, 0-26. Hughes continued his remarkable scoring record since returning to the team after Bourton and Feeney combined well to put the winger in for his brace, 0-33.

Moseley attempted to fightback and get on the scoreboard but again met a resolute defensive wall and after Goss managed to make 2 tackles in 5 seconds Ryan again forced a turnover penalty. It looked like Chinnor would kick to touch and end the half but Clementson was quick to spot a gap and immediately took a tap to himself and put Worboys through a gaping hole for the prodigious young star to canter home from 40 metres to bring up a scarcely believable 0-40 half time score.

Chinnor would not let the momentum slip after half time and kept up the relentless pace. A storming break up the middle by Clementson was continued by the slippery Smith and when he was eventually brought down, Feeney cut inside the cover to score. 0-45.
Carter then made a scything break and linked well with Ryan who charged into the 22 and unselfishly passed to Worboys for the 10 to join Hughes in notching his brace. It was now 0-52 after 52 minutes.

Moseley emptied their bench and looked more dangerous as Painter picked up the pace. A huge scrum from Chinnor featuring Woody, Darlo and Clarke obliterated the home team and seemed destined for a pushover try against the head. The referee decided to penalise Chinnor and Painter took off, feeding Pointon who was superbly tackled by Feeney. Wharton miraculously recovered from 100 metres to deny the try.

This was to be the story of the last 20 minutes as time and again Moseley's attacks were thwarted by incredible defence and discipline. Stokesy was at the coalface with last ditch tackles and crucial turnovers. In many ways it was this period that summed up the teams mentality and talent. A refusal to let the hosts score was are a remarkable effort , Champion mentality from a Championship team.

On the final whistle the celebrations were spectacular and fully deserved. The whole squad has given their all, emptied the tank on may occasion and played with skill and grace. The mountain of points scored and small amount conceded is testament to a team that must rate as one of the strongest National One has ever seen.
