Director of rugby Matt Williams reflects on Chinnor's defeat in south west London

MATT Williams is backing Chinnor to learn the lessons from their 26-14 defeat at Richmond on Saturday.

Prop Josh McNulty and full-back Will Harries scored their first tries for the club.

But Jesse Liston and Toby Saysell crossed, while Ross Kirby kicked 16 points, as Richmond earned victory in the National League 1 fixture.

Chinnor were left disappointed with the result, but were able to take plenty of positives from a match they led 7-6 and 14-13.

Director of rugby Williams said: “Overall, I was actually pleased with our shape.

“Our lineout dominated, our drive was very strong, and we were on the wrong end of a few decisions in the scrum that levelled field position out, because they have got a very good kicker who cleared territory off a handful of penalties.

“A couple of silly mistakes in the second half allowed them in and then we were chasing the game.

“It was very frustrating. All credit to Richmond, they defended really well, but it was a game we could and potentially should have done better in.

“We just need to cut out the individual errors. We will be a good team when we do that, it’s as simple as that.”

Chinnor are next in action on Saturday when they welcome Hull Ionians to Kingsey Road for their first home league game of the season.
