Hull Ionians are the first visitors to Kingsey Road this weekend

MATT Williams is urging Chinnor to make Kingsey Road a fortress as they begin their home campaign against Hull Ionians on Saturday.

The Thame-based side head into the third round of the National League 1 season hoping to pick up their second victory.

Chinnor will be determined to show a reaction from last weekend’s 26-14 defeat at Richmond and are looking forward to finally performing in front of their home crowd.

The side only won five of their 15 games at Kingsey Road last season and director of rugby Williams wants to rediscover the form which led to their rise to the third tier.

He said: “Two seasons ago we were on a two-and-a-half-year unbeaten home record.

“But last year we were ironically better away in National League 1 than we were at home.

“I’ve challenged the boys to recreate that fortress environment that Kingsey Road can be as it’s a tough place to play when the boys are on song.”

Hull head to Chinnor off the back of heavy defeats to Birmingham Moseley and Darlington Mowden Park.

But Williams has stressed his side will not be taking their Yorkshire visitors lightly.

He said: “Hull have had a tough start to the season, which kind of worries me a little more because at some point there is going to be a reaction.

“They’ve conceded a lot of points, yet actually the games in the first half have not been as one-sided as the score would suggest, so it’s important we are very much on our game.”

Winger Josh Hodson, who played 40 minutes for Chinnor’s second team last weekend, and lock Ehize Ehizode are in contention for their first starts after recovering from injury.

But prop Luc Jeannot (concussion) and scrum-half Callum Watson (groin) are ruled out.
