U13’s display resilience and spirit against a dynamic Olney team
By Nick Stainton
A squad effort to be proud of!
Chinnor U13’s welcomed Olney RFC to Kingsey Road for the first time and both sides delivered a see saw, end to end game that was easy on the eye but less so on the heart rate. The touch line was full of supporters, encouraging both sides positively.
They were rewarded by some genuinely superb team tries and a closely fought game in near perfect conditions, blue sky on an unusually wind-less morning.
Olney has forward dominance in the first third, with some impressive strong running by their well developed pack and when it occasionally went out wide, fast feet by the back three.
This pressure resulted in three tries to nil after the first third of 20 minutes.
Having the larger squad Chinnor were rotating players regularly to ensure all the boys had game time. Whilst sometimes unsettling the renewed energy was a benefit throughout a match that was physically draining.
Chinnor got back into the encounter with some outstanding teamwork and work rate at the breakdown. The second third saw Chinnor score four tries. Unfortunately after two occasions Olney crept back in. Leading 5 tries to 4 into the last third.
The international referee, Jones, controlled the game well and was delighted by the encouraging words from the sidelines.
Olney pressed on in the last third and had the physical edge against a gutsy Chinnor team.
Final score 7 tries to 4.
Well done to both teams demonstrating great respect and discipline.
