Chinnor Seconds match report for 20th September 2014
Chinnor Seconds vs Roslynn Park Hatters
Chinnor seconds travelled to Roslynn Park for their first league match of the season. It appeared that the forces were against us with all sorts of mishaps and obstacles in our way. Traffic was the number one obstacle on M40, M25 and M4, as a result we were late in arriving. The next obstacle was having change at the club and drive to the Deer Park which the deer had vacated for the game leaving their droppings behind!
The game started with a very strong Roslynn Park team taking the game to Chinnor whilst the boys found their rhythm and tried to settle down. It was 15 minutes before the first points were scored with a penalty by the home team, and 25 minutes before Chinnor got a well-deserved try by James Cathcart who stepped through the gap to score under the posts and converted - 7points to 3 to Chinnor. The forwards and backs both worked hard to make things happen and George Grose scored in the corner just shortly afterwards. The Hatters came straight back with a converted try of their own and the score at half time was Chinnor 12 home side 10. Chinnor did waste a number of opportunities which should have increased the score line.
The second half was as good as the first with the Hatters giving their all, by protecting their line well and then there was a third force making his presence known with some interesting interpretations of the law. 15 minutes into the half Ricky Hopwood scored a great try which gave us some breathing space and a 7 point cushion. 15 minutes later Guy Hackshaw on the wing enjoyed the fruits of a lovely cross kick by Cathcart and scored a try in the corner which increased our lead to 22 points to 10, which is how the game ended.
This was once again a very good team performance with Captain Jon Lavin, Nick Harrison and Max Williams standing out in the pack, and second team backs coach Matty Mountford, Ricky Hopwood, George Grose and George Blewit in the backs. But man of the match goes to Adam Hastings who played his normal outstanding game and a great team player.
A big thank you goes to H Evans for driving the bus with all the boys.
