Great result for young Chinnor team

Chinnor Seconds played their second Home league game of the season against old rivals London Scottish Development. With no rain for weeks it was like playing on a South African highveld pitch, but thankfully not as bad as other club pitches, we don’t have all the dust they have.
Chinnor knew this was going to be a hard game against such a big and well-financed London 1 club. But, as soon as Chinnor ran onto the field you could feel that this was a team really up for a tough game, and were out to prove themselves, and so they did!
Both teams played well with Chinnor appearing to be the more organised side despite Scottish putting the first points on the board with a penalty after fifteen minutes. Chinnor hit back on the half hour with a great try by Ben Ramsdale and converted by Darren Oxley. Five minutes later another power play by the forwards gave Ben Hackshaw the opportunity to score under the posts and the first half finished with Chinnor in the lead by 14 point to 3. This was particularly good with Chinnor playing into a very strong wind, which had to be a disadvantage to them.
Chinnor started the second half with great gusto and the advantage of the wind at their backs put to good use and this put the Scottish team under a lot pressure. At the start of the second half Oxley broke through the centre chasing a ball and was held back by one of the Scottish players, he reacted with a swing of the arm and was immediately red carded by the ref. It seemed to be a harsh decision after giving a yellow card to one of the Scottish players for hitting in the face on a number of occasions during the first half. The Scottish management felt both players should have been yellow carded, instead of the harsh penalty. Especially with the spirit with which the game was being played.
As a result the rest of the game was played by fourteen men which seemed to spur the Chinnor boys on by playing outstanding rugby. Chinnor then went further ahead with a penalty by Sean Cunningham a new player to the team, and a very welcome one at that. Shortly after that there was a massive drive by the forwards, and Matt Grellier scored. This was followed by another successful penalty kicked by Cunningham. Chinnor finished being deserved winners against a strong London Scottish team.
The final score was Chinnor 30 points to 3, a superb win with good rugby played by both sides and providing the spectators with great entertainment. All 16 players were worthy of the man of the match award this week. We would like to extend a big welcome to the new players and its great to have Eric Brown back. Hopefully our injury problems will let up for Chinnor. We certainly need some luck to run our way now with 12 players currently out of first and second teams.
