Chinnor seconds vs. Southend Seconds
Chinnor first and seconds welcomed Southend RFC to Kingsey road this week. The weather threatening us, we all knew it was going to be a tough day on the pitch for all the players.
Sadly for Southend they arrived with only 13 players making it a really long and tough day for them.
Within 2 minutes of the start the ball was in the hands of Tristan Corpe who outpaced the Southend boys and scored under the posts, and converted by Sam Angell. Minutes later Corpe scored his second try and the score was 12 points to 0. Then followed a period when it seemed like everyone wanted to score and the basics went one way. The game settled and Tristan Corpe scored his hatrick shortly after and Chinnor’s lead increased to 19 points to 0. Coach Martin Moran then took two of the Chinnor boys off and Chinnor played with 13 players for the rest of the game. This was a great sporting gesture and it showed appreciation for Southend honouring the fixture when they could have just called off. Thank you for that. Ed Vickers scored the try which gave the seconds another try bonus point and that was followed with tries by George Blewitt and Ricky Hopwood both converted by Angell and the first half finished 38 points to 0 in Chinnor’s favour.
A determined Southend came out in the second half and it took Chinnor 15 minutes before they were able to increase their lead with a try by Jon Lavin and converted by Angell. Tristan Corpe scored his fourth of the day which was also converted by Angell. Final score of the day was a try by Nick Harrison. The Ref stopped the game for bad light with just under 20 minutes left to play I think we all felt was the right decision, but we do have to say hats off to Southend for never giving up.
Man of the match this week goes to Tristan Corpe
The whole team should be very proud of themselves. This makes it maximum points 50 from 10 games.
Tries: x 9. Conversion’s: x 5. Congratulations to the First Team with their win against Southend, another good weekend for Chinnor RFC,
Well boys the next big one is next SUNDAY at 2.30 against Henley seconds in the Cup Game at home
