Chinnor Seconds Match Report for 10th November 2012
Chinnor seconds vs. Shelford Seconds
Chinnor first and seconds welcomed Shelford first and seconds to Kingsey road this week. With both Shelford teams only having lost one game each, it had to be two well contested games, and so they proved to be. The seconds lost Powell, Vickers, Harrison, Hastings and Corpe to the first team and then Williams, Devine and Green to injuries – we certainly felt we had a challenge on our hands.
Chinnor’s seconds didn’t disappoint by playing their normal high standard of flowing rugby with forwards and backs working together like a high performance engine and the high torque of the forwards dominated all the scrums and lineouts which was a pleasure to behold. Chinnor scored their first points within three minutes with George Blewitt cutting through the visitors like a dose of salts and Sam Angell converting. The next 20 minutes Shelford managed to keep Chinnor at bay and the score line to 7 points to 0. The flood gates then opened with stunning tries by Sean Rowley, followed by Captain Ian Stock and George Blewitt with his second, presenting Chinnor with another try bonus point game, making it 9 out of 9. Matt Mountfield try added to the entertainment with some awe inspiring rugby,a powerful try scored by young Anthony Kent of which 3 were converted by Angell and the first half finished 38 points to nil in Chinnor’s favour.
The second half Shelford tried their best to keep this juggernaut called Chinnor in check, but to no avail. The interplay between forwards and backs was relentless and although Shelford never gave up, the quality of rugby from Chinnor was outstanding, to the delight of their large number of loyal supporters. First points in second half were scored by George Blewitt giving him his hatrick of tries. Minutes later it was the turn of Alex Woodhouse and Sam Angell, Chinnor increased their lead to 57 points to nil. We really do have to commend Shelford for their perseverance and never giving up. Their heads never dropped and were eventually rewarded for their effects with a converted try. This was followed with a second try for Sam Angell and one for Ed Rixon. The game ended 69 points to 7. It was refreshing to note that there were no incidents during the game which was testament to both sides. Thank you Shelford your club can be justly proud of you, well done!
There were many outstanding performances in the team. Sam Angell was outstanding after last week, however, man of the match this week goes to Sam Ludgate for his commitment each and every week against some big old boys with years of experience. The whole team should be very proud of themselves. This makes it maximum points 45 from 9 games.
Tries x 11. Conversion’s x 7. Congratulations to the First Team and the General for a bonus point win against Shelford, what a weekend for Chinnor RFC,
With a free weekend the boys can have a well-earned rest we can all go to Henley to support the firsts.
