Chinnor Seconds Match Report for 6th October2012
Chinnor seconds playing in the Zoo Shield Division 2 North travelled to Southend RFC for their second away game of the 2012/13 season. This week the seconds faced a challenge with the reduced players available. We were lucky that a number of the 3rds stepped up to help us and we were able to go away with 16 players, on a great day for playing rugby. The game was very physical from the start with Southend camped on the Chinnor line for the first 15 minutes and Chinnor was under a lot of pressure. Chinnor defence held up well and with the forwards and backs working together we started to attack which was rewarded with the first try just on 15 minutes. Henry Swales powered himself over the line for a try out wide. Southend came back 5 minutes later with a penalty, and this was followed with Swale outpacing the entire Southend team by scoring under the posts for his second and Sam Angel increasing the lead with the conversion. Chinnor were in the lead by 12 points to 3 after 25 minutes. Chinnor continued to attack the Southend line but were held up by some very good defence .Then after some good work by the forwards the ball came along the back line to Trevor Powell who placed a cross kick that was picked up by Swales giving him his hatrick. Again converted by Angel and Chinnor led 19 points to 6. Southend came straight back with a penalty and the half finished 19 points to 6 for Chinnor. The second got off to a good start for Chinnor with a try by Josh Woodeson and converted by Angell which gave the Chinnor seconds their 5th try bonus point in five games. Again Southend came back with a penalty followed by a try and this narrowed the score to 26 points to 14. Chinnor continued playing well as a team and further tries were scored by Ed Vickers, Sam Angel and Jack Horwood all converted by Sam Angel. Chinnor finished the game winning by 47 points to 14 this was an outstanding performance by the team with some great individual performances as well. Man of the Match Henry Swales Tries 7. Conversions Chinnor seconds 6.
