Chinnor seconds grind out a win

Chinnor 2nds hosted Hertford this week and they are another team to have their first team in National 2 league.
Their team also felt that they had a score to settle after being trounced 40-12 in their last encounter with Chinnor.
Chinnor began well with both forwards and backs putting Herford under pressure and Matt Hutchings was first to put points on the board by scoring six minutes into the game and the try was converted by Sam
Angell. Chinnor then appeared to lose their way with a few missed tackles which resulted in Hertford scoring a converted try, score 7 - 7. The Chinnor boys then seemed to stick with playing a defensive
game and were lucky to only concede a penalty during this period.
With a minute to go to half time Tristan Corpe outpaced the entire Hertford team by running from his own half and scored in the corner. The half ended with 15 -10 to Chinnor
The Chinnor boys came back in the second half and although they upped their game they just couldnt make it count and made a few wrong decisions as well as the odd silly infringement. Despite that their defence was exceptional and they were able to keep Hertford at bay until the twenty fifth minute when Hertford broke through and took the score to 17 -15. Thirty minutes into the half Harry Hillier came off the bench and made an immediate impact on the game and scored within minutesmaking it 20 -17. Hertford soon replied with a try of their own and Hertford were back in the lead 24-20.
Tristan Corpe was again able to outpace the opposition again and scored his second try in the corner and Sam Angell did well to convert - the game ended with Chinnor winning, with the score 27 -24.
This was not Chinnor 2nds at their best by a long shot, but it does show that even when the boys do play below their norm they are still able to somehow grind out a win. Well done boys!
Contenders for the man of the match were Trevor Powell - always outstanding, Ed Vickers and Harry Hillier made a good impact coming off the bench. Man of the match this week goes to Tristan Corpe - and it is great to have you back Tristan.
The team did miss coach Martin Moran this past week, and it showed in their play
