Another great win

Chinnor Seconds Match Report for 18th February 2012
Chinnor Seconds vs. London Irish Amateur RFC
Chinnor Seconds travelled to London Irish at the weekend, one of the few clubs whose first team is at the same level as Chinnor firsts, but in the London league National 3. As per usual another tough game in this very competitive league we play in and the home fixture proved to be very competitive and very close with Chinnor scoring in the last ten minutes and recorded a good win.
The game started well for The Irish with Chinnor under a lot of pressure and Irish took the lead in the eighth minute with a penalty followed four minutes later with another and lead 6 points to 0. Shortly after that Chinnor lost Edd Vickers to a yellow card for not allowing the player to run ten metres after a quick penalty. This seemed to spur the boys on with the injustice of the yellow card and they started to play rugby as we know they can. One of their second row players constantly took cheap shots by hitting Ben Hackshaw in the face during the scrums, and as a result the game became very physical. And as a result Chinnor settled down and took the game to the Irish. On twenty minutes will Millett broke the line and ran in a great try in the corner and narrowed the gap to 6 points to 5. The next fifteen minutes was taken up with Chinnor dominating all set pieces and putting the Irish pack under a lot of pressure and resulting with the forwards driving Captain Ed Rixon over the try line. Chinnor took the lead by 10 points to 6. Chinnor increased their lead three minutes later with a second wonderful try by Will Millett which he also converted and Chinnor again increased their lead to 17 points to 6. The second half started with Sam Angell replacing Will Millett at number 10 and driving the Irish back with some well-placed kicks into the corners of the field. Not long into the second half Chinnor increased the lead to 20 points to 6 with a penalty by Sam Angell. The following ten minutes Irish were able to prevent Chinnor adding points with some good defence but were unable to get out of their own half. Edd Vickers then grabbed the opportunity and out muscled a number of Irish players on the Irish ten metre line and side stepped his way to score under the posts, which Angell converted and the score was now 27 points to 6. Chinnor gained a bonus point with it being the fourth try. The following fifteen minutes saw much of the same physical game being played by both sides, and very good rugby with the weather conditions as they were. On thirty five minutes it was the turn of Ben Hackshaw to score and increased Chinnor’s lead to 32 points to 6. The final try was the piece de resistance when Guy Hackshaw stole the ball off the wing and handed it to Trevor Powell who broke through the defence and scored. The final score was 37 points to 6 another fantastic win. Once again a great team effort with all players having outstanding games, and Captain Ed Rixon was awesome, but man of the match goes to Trevor Powell,
