Chinnor Seconds
Match Report for 14th January 2012
Chinnor Seconds vs. Oxford Quins Seconds
Chinnor Seconds travelled to Oxford for the return fixture against Quins who are finding this Shield league a real challenge. However they did feel that they could give Chinnor seconds more of a game than they did when they travelled to Thame. The only problem was they came up against a Chinnor side that was full strength and one could wish to field this team each week. Sadly for Quins this season they are experiencing a problem with the number of talented players they need for Nat 3 and the Shield. We do wish them well.
This week the seconds were spoilt for choice with Mark Chase, Adam Hastings and Max Williams all fit after being out for a long period and then Ramsdale, Cawston and Serrano were back too. Needless to say being a local derby the Chinnor boys were certainly up for it.
Chinnor came out of the block at full speed with Trevor Powell scoring the first try within 3 minutes which was then converted by Will Millett. Their enthusiasm seemed to get the better of them at times and they missed a few opportunities to score. Having said that, the next 15 minutes of the game saw further tries by Millett and Chase and a penalty by Millett. This took Chinnor to a commanding lead of 20 points to 0. The following fifteen minutes the penalty count against Chinnor rose to about 20 to 0 and in this time Quins were successful with 2 penalties and lessened the gap to 20 points to 6. This appeared to wake Chinnor up and Chase scored his second try and was converted by Millet, Chinnor increased their lead to 27 points to 6 and a try bonus point at half time.
The bench was loaded with talent with the likes of Humphreys, Vickers, Hillier, Green and Serranno still to come on and wanting to prove their worth, we knew the tempo would increase in the second half and so it proved to be.
Within the first 10 minutes of the second half tries followed with Chase scoring his third, Alex Woodhouse and Adam Hastings each scoring too, two of which were converted by Millett and the lead for Chinnor increased to 46 points to 6. Another four tries followed with Tristan Corpe, Jack Green, Edd Vickers and Max Williams getting on the band wagon.
The game ended 68 points to 6 in Chinnor’s favour with 11 tries. Credit must go to Quins for continuing to keep the spirit of the game going and they kept their their heads up and gave all they could to the end. Well done to them!
This was a master class in rugby with Backs and forwards playing well together and the forwards playing well as a unit, and then the backs doing the same it was a pleasure to be involved with this team as it is every week . Martin Moran is certainly doing a great job with the coaching of the boys and keeping them going at practice week in and week out. Thank you boys
