Chinnor seconds win a big one

Chinnor Seconds Match Report for 10th December 2011
London Scottish vs. Chinnor Seconds
Chinnor Seconds hosted London Scottish for their return fixture and once again had the challenge of taking on one of the strongest teams in the league. Their first team competes in the championship league, one below premiership which is three up from Chinnor. From the kick off it was all Chinnor for the first fifteen minutes, with us scoring from a successful penalty followed by a drop goal, by Same Angell. The following twenty minutes both teams attacked and defended well, Chinnor had the opportunity to score twice, but were thwarted in their efforts with the ref not allowing any advantage. At the same time Scottish attacked the Chinnor try line without success due to the Chinnor defence who were determined to keep them out. Sadly Chinnor then lost Sam Angell with an injured shoulder and had to be taken to hospital. Just on half time Chinnor increased their lead with another successful penalty this time by Alex Woodhouse. Scottish got their first points on the stroke of half time with a penalty of their own and the kick was made easier by 10 meters for back chat to the Ref. The first half finished 9 points to 3 in Chinnor favour.
The second half started with Scottish steeping up into another gear and all guns blazing, this put Chinnor under a lot of pressure making them defend their try line. Twenty minutes of hard defence Scottish took the lead with a penalty and a converted try and were now in the lead by 13 points to 9. It was only great defence by the whole Chinnor team that keep the score line within check when close on thirty minutes Tom Gray intercepted a pass in another attack on the Chinnor line and ran 80 meters to score under the posts. This was successfully converted by Woody, to the delight of team and the Chinnor supporters, and there were many! Chinnor retook the lead by 16 points to 13. Scottish came straight back with a penalty which levelled the score. It must be said that for the entire half of the game it was the boot of Trevor Powell that keep driving Scottish back time after time and keep Chinnor in the game. Straight after the Tom Gray interception try Gray almost got another when he caught a cross kick from Powell in our 22 then chipped the ball over the defence and gathered the ball himself, a great covering tackle by their full back that saved Scottish. Five minutes before the end Chinnor where awarded a penalty on the side line, and on the limit of Woody’s kicking range. With encouragement from the team and again the supporters convinced him to go for it and to the delight of the whole of Chinnor they saw the ball sail through the posts and Chinnor won the game !9 points to 16. A truly wonderful win for the team! We should also congratulate Scottish for their style of rugby and what good sportsmen they are. Fantastic play by all the team and with so many contenders Sam and Al Blewitt, Jack Green and others, but Man of the match goes to Trevor Powell
