Chinnor Seconds Match Report for 26th November 2011
Chinnor seconds vs. Tring seconds. Chinnor seconds finally had a home game after four away games in a row, and quite refreshing to have a game against near neighbour’s Tring RFC, who are new to our league. Tring firsts playing in the equivalent league as our Chinnor firsts are, but in the London division. Chinnor came out of the starting blocks with both forwards and backs combining well, and kept the visitors under immense pressure. As a result it wasn’t too long before Chinnor got their first try scored by Ben (Rambo) Ramsdale and converted by Alex (Woody) Woodhouse. Within minutes Ken Prinsloo ran in two more tries within 3 minutes of each other and both were converted by Woody. Chinnor then added another two unconverted tries in the following ten minutes, scored by Nick Harrison and Will Millett. Tring suddenly found themselves down 31 points to nil, giving Chinnor their try bonus point within 25 minutes of the kick off. For the next 15 minutes Tring tried to get back into the game but with the strength of Chinnor’s set pieces as well as the forwards and backs working so well together it proved to be an uphill battle. On the occasions that they did put Chinnor under pressure the boys’ defensive play was rugby at its best the first half finished 31 points to 0 to the home side.
The second half was a continuation of the first half with Tring believing that they could get back into the game, and Chinnor just let them throw everything at them but to no avail. Chinnor then brought on their bench in this in this period and Tring lost their prop which then resulted in uncontested scrums. This did help them a little due to the domination of the Chinnor pack. On fifteen minutes into the half Chinnor decided to step up a gear and the whole match changed pace with first Ricky Hopwood scoring in the corner. Three minutes later Guy Hackshaw scored under the posts and Jack Green converted, this was then followed 4 minutes later by Will Millett and once again was converted by Green. To add salt in the wound Trevor Powell added another 5 pointer two minutes later and Chinnor had increased their lead to 55 point to 0 in the space of ten minutes. It didn’t seem to matter what Tring tried but they were unable to penetrate Chinnor’s defence. The last fifteen minutes Chinnor lessoned their pace. Chinnor did finish with another try scored and converted by Jack Green for the last play of the game. Final score Chinnor 62 to 0 0. Tring were a lot better than the score indicates, the problem was they met a Chinnor team that played an outstanding game of rugby that had the Chinnor spectators spellbound with the quality and pace and commitment by the full 20 Chinnor players. Man of the match all 20 players What a difference it makes when you have a full complement of players for a game. With this team we would have won all our games.
