Chinnor Seconds Match Report for 15th October 2011
Chinnor Seconds vs. Hertford RFC
Chinnor Seconds travelled to Hertford, another club whose first team are in National 2 so it would be another tough game in this very competitive and strong league that we play in. Having lost Nick Harrison and Ritchie Williams to the first team and then Ricky Hopwood, George Blewitt, Will Millett and Mark Wilkinson were not available. We did get back Mr reliable Alan (Cosher) Cawston as well as a few 3rd team players to help us out. For the first ten minutes Chinnor had the upper hand, and Jack Green was successful with a penalty. Hertford came back with one of their own and then followed another by Green. With both teams playing very good rugby, the attack and defence was at a very high pace. Chinnor was the first to break the dead lock with a well taken try by Ken Prinsloo, Hertford immediately replied with a try of their own and Chinnor kept the lead 11 points to 8. Green was on target with his 3rd penalty and the half finished 14 points to 8 in Chinnor’s favour. The second half started with Chinnor conceding a push over try within the first 5 minutes and the Hertford team started to think that they had the upper hand. Chinnor were not about to take that without a fight and the forwards began to dominate all set pieces with the backs stepping up another gear with all the quick ball they were getting. Jack Green then made a break down the line and slipped the ball to Max Mitchem who broke the line and ran from the half way to score under the posts converted by Green. A couple of minutes later Ben (Rambo) Ramsdale ran through the entire Hertford pack and ran for 40 meters before offloading the ball to Alex (Woody) Woodhouse who scored in the corner. Chinnor moved into a commanding lead of 26 points to 13. The assault continued with some outstanding play when the ball travelled down the back line to Powell and onto Prinsloo then back to Powell who grubber kicked the ball down field which he then beat Hertford to and as he was tackled he passed an overhead pass to Rob (Fenner’s) Fenwick who collected the ball at full speed and ran 35 meters to score under the posts, again converted by Green and Chinnor increased their lead to 33 points to 13. Ed Rixon was then yellow carded for not releasing the player. It was a rather strange penalty since he wasn’t the tackler and was entitled to play the ball. During that time most of the game was played between the two 22 metre lines and Rixon returned to the pitch with five minutes of the game left but made his presence felt and in the last move of the game Powell broke the line and passed the ball to Prinsloo who ran in his second try, converted by Green and the game finished 40 points to 13. This was a great win for the boys and with the understanding between the forwards and the combination of Powell and Prinsloo in the centre Chinnor seconds can wish for many more wins with their well balanced team. Once again a great effort by all 18 players but Man of the Match goes to Rambo with many following a very close second.
