Chinnor Seconds Match Report for 17th September 2011
Chinnor seconds vs. Tunbridge Juddians seconds
Chinnor seconds had their second home league game in a row against Tunbridge Juddians who are new to the league. Their first team play in the London league, which is the equivalent to Chinnor’s first team league. For the second week in a row Chinnor came out of the starting blocks with both forwards and backs combining well to keep the visitors under a lot of pressure, and the forwards dominating the set pieces. Chinnor took the lead within the first five minutes with a try by Andy Berry in the corner. Juddians tried to settle and get to grips with the game but Chinnor kept up the pressure with Ken Prinsloo and Alex Woodhouse in the centre combining well. Woody created gaps at will and the visitors did well to keep Chinnor from scoring. Shortly after a back line movement ended with the ball travelling along the back line and full back Tom Gray joining the line at full speed, Juddians weren’t able to stop him and he scored under the posts which was easily converted by Alex Woodhouse. About four minutes later another try this time by Ritchie Williams and within 18 minutes Chinnor had a healthy lead of 17 points to 0. Juddians began to settle into the game and there was a lot of attacking and defending by both sides. Just before half time we had the pleasure of seeing one of the best individual tries of the game, with Tom Gray picking up a bouncing rugby ball at full speed on his own 22 meter line and ducking and weaving through the entire Juddians team without one player laying a finger on him to score under the posts for his second try, again converted by Woody which gave Chinnor a try bonus point, and the first half finished 24 points to nil in Chinnor’s favour. Juddians came out in the second half upping their ante and attacking Chinnor and with a ball being hacked down field they beat the Chinnor defence and scored under the posts but missed the conversion. Chinnor then for some reason took their foot off the gas and started to rush things and neglected the basics and Juddians took advantage by putting Chinnor under a lot of pressure for about fifteen minutes. Chinnor defended well during this period. The boys then decided to get back to winning rugby and scored 3 tries in 8 minutes by Guy Hackshaw, Rob Fenwick and Richie Williams with his second try. In the last five minutes of the game, Chinnor again relaxed and allowed Juddians to run in two tries instead of closing the door and the game finished 39 points to 15 to Chinnor. This was a very impressive performance by the Chinnor second team with all 20 players again playing good rugby. The game was won once again by being secure at set pieces, strong in defence and incisive in attach. But they have to keep the intensity up for the full 80 minutes. The game was thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by the encouraging number of spectators there to watch the game and many were happy to give positive feedback. We look forward to another good turnout for our third home game in a row! Man of the match Tom Gray
