Chinnor Seconds Match Report for 10th September 2011
Chinnor seconds vs. Redingensians seconds
Chinnor seconds had their first home league game against close neighbours Gensians and winners of the league last year, and the history was not good having suffered two convincing defeats against our boys last season.
After the disappointment of last week the boys came out of the blocks at full speed and before Gensians could settle down Chinnor were up 14 points to nil with Mark Wilkinson and Ben Ramsdale scoring the tries, both were converted by Henry Colver. Chinnor forwards were dominating and Gensians soon realised that it was going to be a long tough match. The backline impressed with being the quickest we have had in years. The game settled down to some very good rugby with both teams giving it their all and the attacking and defending by both teams was outstanding, with no quarter given. Gensians got their first points by way of a penalty this was followed by a move that started just outside our 22 on the left hand side, Stocky took a quick penalty and great hands swept Chinnor to the opposition 22. Great clear out work served good ball to Richie Williams who stepped his opposite number to score under the posts, and again converted by Colver. In injury time Gensians were awarded their first try and the first half finished 21 points to 10 in Chinnor’s favour.
Within two minutes of the start in the second half Chinnor increased their lead with a successful penalty by Colver. The next twenty five minutes produced a bit of a stalemate with both sides attacking and defending with some very good rugby. Chinnor were unfortunate to be given two yellow cards in the second half, which Gensians were unable to take advantage of. Chinnor continued with their superb play and were able increase their lead with a further two tries by Steffan Myburgh and Henry Colver and once again Colver was dead on target with both conversions. This gave Henry Colver a 100% success rate over the two games of 9 out of 9 successful kicks as well as a try.
This was a very impressive performance by the Chinnor second team with all 20 players playing a high standard of rugby. The game was won by being secure at set pieces, strong in defence and incisive in attach. So many players were contenders for man of the match; it certainly proved to be a difficult decision and it we have to mention that the forwards were awesome, Ben Ramsdale Cosher and Stocky inspirational and outstanding. Backline Bill Deeley, Ritchie Williams also worth worthy praise. Henry Colver, with outstanding vision and a great Kicking. Man of the match goes to Ian Stock, captain marvel who lead his troops by example. Finally the second team would like to wish a belated welcome to Martin Moran as their new coach for the season.
