Chinnor Seconds Match Report for
17th December 2011
Redingensians seconds vs. Chinnor Seconds
Chinnor Seconds travelled with the firsts this week for the return double header against Redingensians first and second team with a lot at stake in both in both leagues. This was always going to be a tough and physical game for both sides and so it proved to be.
As we did not have props we had to play the game uncontested which did not help us as our scrum is such a integral part of or game and allows us to attack on both our scrum and theirs.
The first 20 minutes of the game was quit even with both teams battling to settle down and play good rugby and both sides rushing trying to make things happen and not being patient, the brake came for Chinnor with Edd Vickers breaking the defensive line and passing to Alex (Woody) Woodhouse to score in the corner and Chinnor took the lead by 5 points to 0. For the next 15 minutes better rugby was played by both teams and Chinnor could have increased their lead on a number of occasions but it did not happen, on 35 minutes Will Millett was yellow carded and this seemed to spur the team on and after a forward drive on the Rams try line Andy (Milly) Millburn scored a push over try in the corner and the half finished 10 points to 0 in Chinnor’s favour.
Chinnor started the second half as they finished the first half having most of the play with the ref playing his part of stopping rugby being played but once again a great bit of rugby by Woody from his own 22 metre line he jinxed through the entire Rams Team with not one player laying a hand on him to score in the corner to increase the Chinnor to 15 points to 0. For the last 30 minutes it was all about the Ref handing out more Yellow cards 2 to Chinnor George White and Ricky Hopwood and 2 to Rams. Only 1 of the 5 yellows was justified when the Rams full back missed catching the ball from a kick down field and before he knew it Max Williams was right next to him so he tackled him without the ball to stop Max scoring with an open try line in front of him and Chinnor could have been awarded a penalty try.
Max Williams had a good return to playing rugby 18 months with two stints of 20 minutes I both halves of the game not having lost any of his great talent ( welcome back Max). Adam Hasting managed a full 80 minutes (well done Adam) it is always tough to pick a man of the match with all player having a good game , but man of the Match goes to Alex Woodhouse this week well done Woody.
