Chinnor seconds lose tough game
Chinnor seconds lost to Blackheath academy with some decisions playing a large part in the outcome and Blackheath got the rub of the green. We knew it was always going to be a tough and physical game. Not to be fooled by the name academy, this was a team had a very mature and experienced pack with a lot of weight and a very quick back line. Chinnor was put under a lot of pressure for the first 20 minutes and all Blackheath came away with was 3 points from a penalty. Chinnor then started to get into the game and the forwards began to gel when Andy Millburn came off the bench. This resulted in some great forward play giving Jon Lavin the opportunity of scoring the first try. Followed by a successful conversion by Thad Cooper who stepped up to take on the role of kicker when seconds lost Cathcart and Angell to the first team. Chinnor were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty try when Blackheath had four penalty infringements denying Chinnor a push over try, and surprisingly no yellow cards either. Just to add insult to injury a deliberate knock down from a pass with an open try line 5 meters out was only punished with a penalty when a try was a certainty. Scant reward in such a close game. Chinnor were denied two further tries when the ref deemed them to have been held up when at least one by Danny Burns was a definite a try. It appears that referees are looking for tacklers releasing the player and nothing else. The first half finished 7 points to 3 in Chinnor favour. Again Chinnor seconds were very slow and tentative in the first 15 minutes of the second half which allowed Blackheath to score 2 tries of which one conversion was successful. Blackheath were ahead 13 points to 7. Chinnor came back at Blackheath with Danny Burns going over the line with 3 players on his back. The kick from the touch line missed as did two kickable penalties in the last 15 minutes. The game finished with Blackheath winning 13 points to 12 a game that Chinnor should have won and deserved to win. This week’s man of the match is Jon Lavin.
With the first team having fourteen players out injured it is going to be a tough few weeks ahead for the club’s other teams Walter McGuicken
