Chinnor start the match with high intensity and pressure. The first 15 minutes are evenly fought with high penalty count against both teams for minor infringements at the beak down and scrummage. Chinnor are awarded a penalty in front of the posts which is successfully taken by James Cathcart to take the lead. Grove hit back at Chinnor and soon are back on level terms from a penalty of their own, 3-3. Chinnor soon retake the lead from a penalty, following the Grove flanker releasing his bind at the scrum, 3-6. It's on 16 minutes Chinnor score their first try when just inside Groves half great work from Max William's turns over Grove ball. Dan Cundy distributes a quick ball to the backs, Nathen Napier puts in a delicate little grub kick into space and turning the Grove defence around Harry HIllier runs through. Giving his opposite number no time to gather spills passes the ball for Nathen Napier to pounce and score in the corner, 3-11. Grove show good spirit and are unlucky not to score themselves especially from a lineout catch and drive, somehow Chinnor defence held out under continued pressure. On 37 minutes George Grose scores his first of two tries. Chinnor take advantage with Grove down to 14 players, the resulting penalty kicked to touch, the forwards catch and drive and gain yards. Jon Lavin splits and runs into the heart of the 22, quick ball from Dan Cundy is spread wide to George Grose to score in the corner 3-16, which is the half time score.
Chinnor start the second half well and start to show their superiority and fitness. On 50 minutes a error from Grove within the try zone knocks on, leading to a 5 metre scrum for Chinnor. Chinnor keep their patience and following numerous phases and galant defending from Grove, George Grose scores his second try, 3-21. The Chinnor boys are now playing some excellent rugby and are breaking down Grove. On 56 minutes the excellent and complimentary partnership at centre of Nathan Napier and Martin Nutt works some magic. Nathan splits the defence with a great angle run bursting into the 22 towards the try line unselfishly draws the defender and pops the ball to Martin who scores under the posts and James Cathcart converts,3-28. Grove hit back at Chinnor with a try of their own in the corner showing great spirit following a handling error, 8-28. On 72 minutes Chinnor score again. A Lineout is awarded to Chinnor halfway in the Grove half, Harry HIlier comes off his wing and bursts onto the ball in midfield breaking the Grove defence to score under the posts with a joyous celebration as the boys think they are off to Ifffley Road. James Cathcart converts, 8-35. On 75 minutes Chinnor are down to 14 players and Grove take advantage to score themselves, 13-35. Grove still believe in themselves and start to pile on the pressure, this results in another yellow card and Chinnor finish the match with 13 players. Thankfully Chinnor defend to the very end and show great skills keeping Grove out. Final score 13-35.
This was a great team effort with players putting their shirt on the line to ensure a victory and more importantly the opportunity to play in the final. Simone Carloni a fond farewell arrivederci from all!! Alex Wadddington and Max Williams were both fantastic making tackle after tackle in the loose and turning over Grove ball time and time again. Alan Cawston's vintage arrows provided set piece guaranteed.
This weeks reporters star man is Sam Ludgate who around the park was immence and showed great ball carrying, scrummaging and huge energy all the way through.
