Chinnor Seconds Match Report for 28th September 2013
Chinnor Seconds vs. Redingensians Seconds
Chinnor seconds welcomed one of our neighbours Redingensians RFC to Kingsey road for a friendly. It was expected to be tough playing against quality opposition, and a team that have always tested us to the full in all the years that we have competed against them. Although we had a number of players injured or unavailable, the club has is very fortunate to be able to rely on players capable of starting in a lot of the local first teams. We owe a debt of gratitude to Bill Deeley, Darren Oxley wannabe Vet Trevor Powell to play in key positions, thanks boys. Both teams started well with wanting to play open running rugby. Trevor (The General ) Powell rewarded us with exciting rugby from his own 22, turning defence into attack and being on hand for the return pass, and then slipped the ball to Joe ( Lightning ) Marston to finish it off, and it was converted by Sam ( protector of the beer tent ) Angell to get the extra 2 points. Half way through the first half Ensians split the defence with a well-earned converted try of their own and followed five minutes later with a penalty and now led 10 points to 7. Chinnor came straight back with another break by Trevor Powell. that knew rather than see that Joe Marston was coming up in support and a floating pass was picked up and the visitors were unable to lay a hand on Joe and once again Angell added the extra 2 points and the half finished 14 points to 10 in favour of the home side.
Within 10 minutes of the second half Redingensians had taken the lead by way of a penalty and a converted try due to a brief lack of concentration and they were now 20 points to 14 in the lead. Fifteen minutes on we were treated to some more magic by The General when he split the opposition and scored under the posts. Angell’s kicking boot worked its magic again and the lead reverted back to Chinnor 21 points to 20. The following fifteen minutes the spectators were provided with great rugby from both teams and had the supporters’ on tender hooks with honours even. The final ten minutes saw Chinnor play some of their best Rugby with a display of tries scored by Ian Stock, George Blewitt and a penalty try all converted by Sam Angell. And Chinnor won the game by 42 points to 20.
Man of the match this week goes to The General.
