Chinnor Seconds Match Report for 16th February 2013
Westcombe Park RFC seconds vs. Chinnor Seconds
Chinnor seconds travelled to Westcombe Park for a friendly after their home game against Bishop Stortford was postponed. Combe are in Shield Div 2 South and are in third spot with a game in hand, and Chinnor in top spot of Div 2 North. Previously we had been in the same division for about five seasons so knew it was to be a good test of where we would stand in the main London sides. . The boys played on a very soft and muddy pitch that was testing both sides and presenting a challenge for the teams to produce good rugby.
This week Chinnor were delighted to welcome yet another new comer, Aaron Radley to the team and wish him well. The boys started well and attacked strongly and were rewarded with a try by Ed Vickers which was converted by Alex Stephenson just after 5 minutes. Chinnor dominated most of the play for the following thirty five minutes, but made silly errors and failed to go through the phases, which they are usually very good at. On the stroke of half time Chinnor were denied a try when the pack drove the Combe forwards back over the try line, the ref maintained that the ball was held up with not one Combe player near the ball. As a result the half finished 7 points to 0 in Chinnor’s favour.
The second half started with Combe kicking off and Chinnor setting up a ruck and after a number of pick and goes the ball went out to Trevor (the General) Powell who scored under the posts, again converted by Alex. Chinnor dominated for the following twenty minutes in all phases of play and ran in further tries by Ed Rixon which was converted, and Harry Hillier. They increased their lead to 26 points to 3. The following twenty minutes it appeared that the Ref tried to even up the game and Chinnor were given 3 yellow cards for the same infringements that Combe were getting away with. This resulted in two converted tries, one of which was never grounded. Alex Stephenson answered back by scoring and converted his own try and the game ended 33 points to 24 in Chinnor’s favour.
A good team effort and a another win making it 18 out of 18 with another 5 tries
