With the postponement of their leaguue fixture against Cambridge, the mighty 2's took on old rivals Richmond in a "friendly". This would be an interesting test for the side determined to go into the christmas break undefeated.
The match was an even contest for the first 10 minutes with defences very much on top. The deadlock was broken by an Angel penalty in the 13th minute. Chinnor then exerted pressure which resulted in a catch and drive well executed resulting in Rixon going over for the first try of the match. With Angel converting, Chinnor were 10-0 up after 20 minutes. Almost immediately Richmond fought back to score a well worked try on the right wing.
However, it was Chinnor who were starting to get on top at the set piece. With 30 minutes gone an impressive scrum allowed Ed Vickers to work off the base and dive over for a try. Half time came with the score 15-5 to Chinnor.
However, the first 20 minutes of the second half effectively settled the game. Tristan Corpe made one of his many breaks through the midfield, General Powell was on hand to take the offload on Richmonds 10 metre line and with deceptive pace (!!) raced past the Richmond defence to score...nice swallow dive at the end! But Chinnor were now in control and what followed summed up Chinnors season so far. Chinnor turned over ball inside their own 22, Matty Mountford, seeing the opportunity set off in attack. He offloaded to Woody on the right wing. Woody took off and drew the full back chipping ahead into Richmond's 22. The ball looked like it was going out but Woody flicked it up to Tristan in support and he dived over to finish off a magnificent counter attack. With Angel converting it was game over at 27-5.
However, there was still time for Woody to get on the scoresheet and a final Angel conversion before Richmond score a consolation try to make the final score 34-12.
A great way to finish 2012 unbeaten and a very deserved man of the match to Ed Vickers
