Building rugby structures - on and off the field.

We are now well and truly into pre season and have already started rugby structures mixed in with continuous conditioning. With the continuous hard work of our ground staff led by Steve Halson and team we have a beautiful pitch one already marked and ready for war!

Within a Saturday session I have particularly enjoyed watching 'live' sparring with a partner; the likes of Nathan Hannay and Jamie Townsend trying to land that TKO shot within a 1 minute bout! Then at the other end of the spectrum is the likes of Oscar Heath and Henry Lamont with a gentleman's agreement that they would both fain hand injuries so to get in a few more key stomach crunches for the summer.
Last week was our first light 'Defence' session against pads which to the comical relief of the squad resulted in the first claret spill, and to Richard Thorpe of all people; leading by example (or head)
Numbers continue to thrive and we have had some super walk in's who will add massive depth and competition to our already strong squad.

Off the field Nathan Hannay, Bevon Armitage and Jay Tyack have completed the structural reconfiguration of our medical centre and it is now ready to be handed over to our industrious 'Friday Club' to start the internal fitting and decorating; a troupe of spritely young retirees of whom I am always thankful.

Last Saturday was a Team building day and the camaraderie of the squad is superb. Boys loving each other's company and working hard for one another. This was proven by the fact all the boys dived in with clearing a load of brick work rubble into skips; all to make sure the club was presentable for a Wedding that evening.

We now have Richmond Vikings confirmed to play a Chinnor XV at Richmond 2pm KO on the 20th August when a group of 28 will be taken to Harrogate. This is a great opportunity for everybody to get decent game time in the build up to September.

Finally keep your eye out for a flying Irishman announcement next week....until then have a good week.
