The Board of Chinnor Rugby Club are delighted to announce a new Community Rugby Department which will deliver a wide range of sports projects and supply quality sports coaching to schools and organisations in the local area and beyond.

The department - which will be headed by a newly appointed Head of Community - has been established following close work between Chinnor Rugby Club and Sports in Schools Ltd. Sports In Schools Ltd specialise in the formation and operating of community departments for sporting clubs and businesses. They currently operate community departments for Championship sides Coventry Rugby, Bedford Blues, Richmond RFC, Ealing Trailfinders, nat 1 opponents next year Birmingham Moseley and Lancashire favourites Fylde Rugby with other support around the country

With over 300 schools and educational establishments within a 10mile radius of the club, there is a fantastic opportunity to build stronger links within the community, deliver high quality sports provision and provide sustained support to the next generation of rugby players who could one day pull on a Chinnor Rugby jersey.

Speaking about the appointment, Chinnor Rugby Chairman Simon Vickers said: “This is a very exciting development for our passionate club. We want to make a difference within the community we sit and we see this as a perfect opportunity to do so. We have already completed some projects within the community but there is so much more we can be doing. I am delighted that Matt Price and his team from Sports In Schools are on board to help us achieve these goals.”

“We want to make a positive impact on the lives of youngsters across Oxfordshire and beyond as well as provide school holiday camps and match day experiences. We are also focusing on quality coaching being delivered to schools with long relationships between the two being harboured.

“All of this will help Chinnor Rugby become more engaged with the local community while also galvanising youngsters to become more involved with the sport that we all love and in turn our club.”

Matt Price, Managing Director of Sports In Schools Ltd added: “Sports In Schools are fast becoming the number one provider for community engagement for sporting clubs and businesses and we are delighted to be working with Chinnor Rugby Club. I say it all the time but it is true, a community department is now a major part of a rugby clubs operational activity and with Chinnor Rugby Club just recently securing promotion in to National One and wanting to be a major force in their specific area as well as being well known as a community club, it makes complete sense to run now. Again it’s exciting times all round and Sports In Schools is delighted to be a part of it.”
