Chinnor face Olney this Sunday at Kingsey Road

GREG Goodfellow’s predicting an entertaining 80 minutes as our Colts take on Olney in the National Under 18 Cup on Sunday afternoon.

We are all set for a bumper day at Kingsey Road, with more than 1,000 children from clubs across Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties taking part in our fourth Minis Festival.

The Colts match follows, offering an opportunity for us to showcase rugby at the top end of our youth section, and head coach Goodfellow makes for a very good case to stay on and watch the 3pm fixture.

“It’s a great advertisement for Under 18s rugby,” said the Scot, who plays as a scrum-half for our Senior Squad.

“We play a different style. We’re quite well organised and structured, we have a good balance between the forwards and the back division. You will definitely be entertained coming to watch our Colts.

“With the Minis Festival in the morning, it’s a great opportunity for the Club in general and for people who have never seen the Colts play before to come along and support. It’s going to be a good day all round.”

Our Colts are unbeaten so far this season, but face a tough test against Olney, who overcame Ampthill in the last round.

Chinnor beat Oxford Quins 56-0 and were then handed a walkover by Bicester. A place in the last 16 against either Old Patesians or Longlevens is up for grabs and Goodfellow is excited for the game.

He said: “The players are looking forward to it. They’ve been playing pretty well this season, put in some good performances, but we’re under no illusions – Olney are a good side.

“For a lot of the boys this age, this is the biggest competition they play in. You get an opportunity to play teams outside of the region and test yourselves. We will take it each game as it comes, but I think we have a good enough squad to certainly make ourselves difficult opposition for whoever we play.

“Olney are unbeaten as well, they’re big and they’re physical. It will be our toughest test so far, so it’s going to be a real humdinger, really entertaining and good on the spectators’ eyes.”
