A great celebration of a great season

They played the game well and showed good character in defeat and victory. They represented Chinnor RFC on the field and off it with panache and good humour
- John Ashfield, President

Last week the colts celebrated at their end of season dinner, and after such a fantastic season that concluded with them becoming South West champions, National Cup semi-finalist and seeing 4 Colts recently making their 1st XV début there was much to celebrate.

President John Ashfield was in attendance and had the opportunity to formally say how proud the club are to have these boys as members. Of their season he said
“They played the game well and showed good character in defeat and victory. They represented Chinnor RFC on the field and off it with panache and good humour”.

It was fantastic to be able to award three players on the night, Tom Dobson, James Cook and Anthony Hutt (pictured) with a long service award having started in the Chinnor RFC u6’s and going through the entire mini and junior process until Colts.

John had much praise for the support and commitment the coaches and the parents had shown for all the boys from age 5 until today and hoped that they had enjoyed the experience and praised their commitment.

He concluded by saying
“I have one piece of advice based on my personal experience, keep playing wherever you are. I moved to Chinnor in 1975 not knowing anyone in the area. I joined Chinnor and by the first Saturday afternoon I had fourteen friends, many of whom are friends forty years later”.

Amongst the speeches Captain James Cook made particular mention of retiring Coach Rob Hill to thank him for all his hard work and dedication. Rob has been instrumental in the success of the Colts and will be sorely missed by the boys, and the club alike.

Thanks to all who made this such a fantastic night and for Charlie Clayton for capturing it in photo form so wonderfully. You can view all the pictures from the night here.
Lastly, a huge congratulations to the boys, a fantastic bunch who are fine representatives of Chinnor Rugby and have so much to be proud of.
