Week 12

What a week! Since the stairs were installed progress inside has been brisk – plastering has started, with the kitchen nearly finished and all the ceilings complete. The first section of roof has been completed and the roof over the new stairs is built and 90% through being covered with zinc. The old door to the players’ bar has been bricked up and the new one is due to be formed next week. What’s more all of the window frames have been installed and the glazing fitted to the first floor windows.

The additional stainless steel food prep tables have been delivered and assembled (thanks to the Friday club) and, with the delivery of the new extractor hood imminent, the kitchen is on target to be handed back in time for the pre-season match on 13th August. The key tasks for the kitchen are now to complete the tiling so the stainless steel units can be installed (or re-installed).

Though not the most glamourous part of the building, the extended WCs (which are becoming the gents) are taking shape. There will be a period in two weeks’ time when only the upstairs DDA WC will be available whilst the urinal is re-sited before new WCs and partitions get fitted to the new ladies loos. Two new sinks are on their way, so it will certainly be more glamourous than ever it was.

The last of the wiring has been fitted with details of external lights, timers and fans all sorted out. The electricians have been great and professional track lighting for the shop has been delivered ready to be installed. We are looking forward to getting the shop kitted out ready for the start of the season.

Downstairs, 1st team players Nathan Hannay and Bevan Armitage have been busy, under the watchful eye of Tony Wrench, getting a new steel beam in to enable the medical and physio rooms to be combined into a decent medical centre. The squad players helped clear the rubble, just in time for a hiring of the clubhouse at the weekend.

There are a few activities which are a little behind schedule, such as re-siting the lift, striking the first section of scaffolding and screeding the lobby floor. That said, they are all now scheduled in and we are looking forward to the last five weeks of the project.

Bob is off on a well-earned break, but the team from Classic Builders are carrying on… Look out for the occasional tweet!

Until next time
