Chinnor Keep on course in their League Title Campaign

Chinnor 47 Canterbury 19

by Doug Humphries

After an even first quarter Canterbury’s Jonathon Jones counter attacked from his 22m to link with the supporting backs allowing Kieran Thompson to score a try converted by Tom Best. Chinnor responded well and a Henry Lamont break took play into the Canterbury 22m area. From the resulting scrum Ali Bone crashed over for Chinnor’s first try - unconverted. 10 minutes later a Kieran Goss counter attack took play into Canterbury’s 22m area where Luke Peters took a good angle to penetrate the defense and score by the post – try converted by Jonny Bentley. This was soon followed by another Ali Bone break allowing Jay Tyack to crash over on the half time. Try converted by Bentley to give Chinnor a 19 – 7 lead.
Chinnor began the restart in earnest putting Canterbury under pressure to allow Charles Broughton to cut through the defence for a try converted by Bentley.
A Yellow card against Canterbury gave Chinnor a penalty taken quickly to put Danny Barnes over to score a try converted by Bentley. Chinnor changed up another gear playing 7-a-side style handling to put Bentley over 2 minutes later and convert his own try.
Canterbury then took the initiative with driving runs putting Glyn Edwards in for a try converted by Will Hilton. This spurred Chinnor back into action and from a 30 m lineout, flanker Alex Bradley carved his way through the Canterbury defence to score near the posts. Replacement fly halfBasil Strang converted.
From the restart Canterbury fly kicked the ball to the try line for Max Cantwell to score the final try

. Final score Chinnor 47 – Canterbury 19
