Chinnor RFC are delighted to announce that two loan signings, Willie Ryan from Doncaster Knights and Josh Hodson from Jersey have now been permanently signed for this coming season
Willie Ryan featured in the home win against Rotherham and close away loss to Rosslyn Park.
Former Ireland Clubs International, Willie has played over 60 Championship games for Rotherham Titans, Ealing Trailfinders and Doncaster. He is a direct ball carrying back row forward, happy at either 8 or 6 .
DOR Matt Williams commented, “At times this season we’ve lacked ball carriers in the pack. Willie is a player I’ve admired for a long time. Having played 4 games on loan for us last season, contributing to our promotion winning campaign I was gutted we didn’t keep him last season, but we’ve now got our man and I’m delighted! He is a no thrills physical player who will test defences!”
Willie added, "I can't wait to get started with Chinnor. Having played a few games for them on loan it was an easy decision. Matt has built a great squad of people both on and off the pitch!"
22 year old Josh Hodson is a former Wales U18s wing. A powerful finisher weighing in at over 100kg, Chinnor fans will remember Josh's 75 metre try away to league winners Ampthill at Christmas.
A former Llandovery College student, Josh signed for London Welsh in the ill fated Club collapse season whereupon London Wasps signed Josh for the reminder of the season.
Josh then moved to Jersey where he played 14 games in his first season, and a serious concussion in preseason kept him out for the majority of the first half of this season. Once fully fit Jersey sent Josh on loan to Chinnor scoring 6 tries in 10 games before dislocating his shoulder.
Josh commented, "I had just found some good form scoring some pleasing tries before I got injured. I'm delighted to be staying at Chinnor where I believe I can challenge for the league's top try scorer. The backline next season is beyond exciting and I hope to be a big part of something special at the club!"
Matt Williams added, "Josh was scoring some breathtaking tries before his injury. Having lost Craig Holland it was vital to keep Josh and I'm delighted he said yes. We have brilliant depth in our back three next season and boys will have to be scoring tries to stay in the starting XV. This is one thing Josh knows how to do!"
