Chinnor stay top with a 10 Try Haul

A sloppy start by Chinnor resulted in Wimbledon scoring a well constructed try by Tabb on 2 minutes which was converted by Doe to give the visitors a 0-7 lead. This was a wake up call for the hosts. It invoked a good response from Chinnor with some slick handing allowed Orisi Nawaqaliva to round off a 60m movement which Jonny Bentley converted from the corner to level the scores. A delicate chip by Jonny Bentley put Kieran Goss in under the posts to score his first of the afternoon. Then it was Jamel Hamilton’s turn to get on the score sheet after some great backs interplay. Wimbledon then got back into the game and then after succession on penalties No 12 Doe took the three points on offer. A Scrum under the posts with Chinnor going over reasserted their ascendancy with Alex Waddingham powering over .There was just time for Kieran Goss to race over again for the final try of the half. Jonnny Bentley completed his 100% record with the boot making it at half time 35-10

A try by Scrum Half Mike McDonald immediately after the break was a sign of Chinnor’s intent. Another Kieran Goss try added to the score. Both tries were unconverted. But a third try of the half for Chinnor quickly followed with Henry Lamont going in for a try under the post giving Jonny Bentley a welcome simple shot for the extras. A rolling maul from Chinnor allowed Rhys Lawrence then added to Wimbledon’s misery- however Wimbledon, not to be denied came back very strongly in the final quarter to notch a couple of scores. The first was by Gillespie- which was quickly answered by Kieran Goss’s hat-trick try. The second by Joshua Charles with 5 minutes to go inspired the visitor to throw everything at Chinnor in search of a bonus point try but were denied by robust Chinnor defending and the clock
The game hinged upon Chinnor’s ability to turn defence into attack with scrum half Mike McDonald pulling all the strings. He just edged the Man of the Match award from Kieran Goss who scored three of the 10 tries by the league leaders FT 64-22
