Chinnor repel a massive Caldy onslaught at Paton Field

Reportby Caldy's John Mallon

Caldy took the lead in the opening minute from a penalty slotted by Jones in the blustery conditions. This was quickly cancelled out as Chinnor made an impressive move down the wing with the final in-field pass allowing Craig Holland to score under the posts.

The first half then became scrappy with Caldy being outfought in all areas of the field.
Chinnor had more strength in the scrum and frustrated Caldy. An increased number of errors allowed the visitors to extent the lead through two Holland penalties to take a 10 point lead at half time 3 - 13

Chinnor’s Jack Gilding was sin binned after a collapsed scrum on the hour mark which prompted a change of fortunes for the home side. Caldy were looking from inspiration and it came at the midway point of the second half when Rhys Hayes broke from the scrum and with some fantastic footwork broke through the Chinnor defence to score the home sides first try of the afternoon. With Caldy’s tails up they took the lead through a JJ Dickinson try with 15 minutes to go to get their noses in front.

With the crowd behind them it looked like the courageous home side were on course for the win. But just 4 minutes later Holland finished off a great Chinnor move to seal a hard fought victory and deflate the home support
