Year 12 and its gets worse Touchline Society sink to depths never seen before
Well, how wrong we were. The 1st half was okay with England leading by two tries to none and as we drank from our hipflasks in the middle of the travelling French supporters, we felt good. The 2nd half showed that the French can do to us what we have done to them over the years - kick your penalties, hit your jumpers in the lineout and guess what you win. Beaten by a penalty kicking Frog against the best that England can proffer - crap game, but good day out!
This year our numbers were somewhat depleted due to a number of members gaining access to the lofty "Corporate" tents - how could they swap a day of beer, burgers and a minibus ride for 3 course lunch, fine wine (as long as it wasnt French) and warmth? Terrible - but hey thats life in the 21st century I guess. A number of new members came and survived - sons have now grown up into young men, fathers have grown into old men, reliving of past historic tours is becoming part of the day. It is even rumoured that we will all have catheters for next season because our bladders are getting so weak. England vs. France was a waster of time watching at £50+ a ticket, but the trip to and from Twickenham will, as always, live in our memories until next year. We even were transported by the same company who had the "Shock and Awe" scandal of a couple of years ago - with no problems.

The
11th year of the Touchline Society was to put it mildly one
of a poor vintage, but everyone was expecting great things
for Year 12. After all, we won the World Cup, came home
triumphant and then had a number of the team decide to
retire on a high. A new coach, a new approach (training with
Rugby League players for one !!!) and the most open 6
Nations in memory set the stage for a fantastic day for all
as England remembered the heady victory of a couple of years
ago and relived the historical victories at Agincourt
against The Frogs!
