Membership

On behalf of CHINNOR Rugby Football Club I would like to welcome you and your child(ren) to the club and provide you with some information about our activities.

The mini section of the club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of 5 years and 12 years to receive coaching and competition within Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. All coaching is by qualified coaches who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people.

We welcome parents to all training and competitions and value your support.

Below is some information about training times and dates, and details regarding travel arrangements, kit and club registration.

Training sessions take place on Sunday mornings at 10.00 from September to May at Chinnor Rugby Club in Thame

Matches are also played on Sunday mornings and may be played at Chinnor RFC or may be played at an opponents club. A fixture list for the season is available from your age-group coach or team manager and is also available to view on this WEB site.

Arrangements should be made for your child to travel to and from training sessions and matches. We appreciate it if children can arrive and are collected promptly. If you are going to be late picking your child up, please contact your age-group administrator and let them know.

A list of current age-group administrators can be found on this site under Coaches details.

Club training kit, which is available from the club shop, consists of:

  • Replica sponsored First team shirt

  • Black shorts

  • Black socks with narrow white hoops

  • Boots with kite marked rugby studs, or ‘blades’.

  • Gum shield.

  • Protective body armour and head gear may be worn.

The cost of training sessions and competition fees are covered by club membership.

The club membership fee should be paid by September 30th, or within 30 days of first training for late season joiners.

For the safety of your child it is important that the club is informed of any medical condition or allergies that may be relevant should your child fall ill or be involved in an accident while at the club.

For this reason every year each player is required to fill in a ‘Contact & Medical Form’, which can be downloaded from this site.

If you would like to talk to someone at the club about this information or your child’s involvement with the club, please contact the Mini Section Chairman.

Sport England Clubmark / RFU Seal of Approval.

Chinnor Rugby Club is one of only a few clubs in Oxfordshire which has been accredited with the Sport England Clubmark/RFU Seal of Approval.

This accreditation and award is an indication of the quality of provision the club offers and the commitment to the continued development of young rugby players.

Sport England welcomes the commitment of volunteers in sports clubs working with children and young people. They have developed an accreditation scheme – Sport England Clubmark – which is integrated into the national governing body club development and recognition of clubs that are safe, effective and child-friendly.

Because we have a sound track record in the provision of rugby coaching for children, Chinnor Rugby Club is known for having achieved the Seal of Approval accreditation faster than any other club in the county.

Child Welfare and the Chinnor Equity Policy Statement

Child Welfare Policy

At Chinnor Rugby Football Club we want to make sure that children are protected and kept safe from physical, sexual and emotional harm while they are with the club’s coaches, helpers and volunteers.

To do this we have the following aims:

  • We will encourage all coaches to attend a Rugby Union Coaching Course

  • We will encourage coaches of either gender

  • All coaches and volunteers will have a job description

  • All coaches will be qualified to Preliminary Award before they are allowed to be the Lead Coach of an age group

  • The club will encourage and help coaches stay up-to-date with rugby coaching and child protection issues. Each lead coach will attend an NCF Child Protection Workshop

  • All coaches will be expected to abide by the club’s ‘Code of Conduct for Coaches’, which is available to view on request.

  • We will keep written records of attendance, parental consent and accidents

  • We will provide a written Health & Safety Policy covering Fire Procedures, Telephone Access and First Aid & Emergency Procedures

  • We will appoint a Child Welfare Officer whose role it is to deal with concern about physical, sexual or emotional abuse within the club.

  • We will provide coaches and parents with a written procedure for dealing with accusations or suspicions of child abuse

  • As a club we will promote ‘Fair Play’ and always play within the spirit of the Laws and letter of the Continuum

Equity policy statement

Chinnor Rugby Football Club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following Sport England definition of sports equity:

Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.

The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status.

The club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse.

All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.

The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to club disciplinary procedures

Volunteer Acknowledgement

Every volunteer, no matter how large or small their contribution, is an extremely valuable member of the club. Without your help and enthusiasm our Mini Section would not be the success that it is today.

Thank you.

It is our aim to provide safe and effective rugby coaching and rugby games for all children between the ages of 5 and 18 years. This provision relies on volunteer adults who, for their own protection as well as that of the children, must understand what is expected of them and what is not.

All coaches/team managers/officials working within Chinnor Rugby Football Club are encouraged to work to high standards and adopt recognised best practice where possible. In addition to their own standards of practice, coaches/team managers/officials are encouraged to be aware of and adopt Chinnor RFC’s own:

  • codes of conduct for coaches/team managers/officials

  • child protection guidelines

  • equity policy statement

  • safety guidelines

If you would like to join our coaching staff, or would like to offer some of your time to the Mini Section in any other way, please contact the Mini Section Chairman.
