RFU coaching certificates:

  • Mini Tag

  • Level 3, level 4 and level 5

The entry level coaching course for parents or helpers wishing to become involved is dependant on the age-group of the children they wish to coach.

Under 7 and under 8 coaches require a Mini Tag qualification.

Under 9, under 10, under 11 and under 12 coaches who are involved in contact rugby at 9-a-side or 12-a-side, require a level 1 qualification.

Mini Tag & Tag Rugby Leader

This is a 3-hour course aimed at any teachers, coaches or parent helpers involved in the Tag game, eg. Club U7/U8 or at School.

There is no formal assessment.

Everything You Need To Know About Mini/Tag

A comprehensive pack covering everything in mini/tag rugby is available to those attending three-hour RFU tag coaching courses. Coaching, refereeing, rules of the game, all in a user-friendly format and even a video and CD will be available free of charge to those on the courses. A chance not to be missed!

Level 1 Coaching

Level 1 is a 15-hour generic course with ‘breakouts’ for age specific work.

Coaches working with children in the Mini Section would take a course which is biased towards coaching U9/10 Mini rugby and U11/12 Midi rugby. This is a joint Referee and Coaching qualification.

There is ongoing assessment on the course which is run over one evening and two full days.

Any coach wishing to lead a coaching session at Chinnor RFC must hold a Level 1 coaching certificate or higher.

Level 2 Coaching

Level 2 is a 21-hour course with some distance learning and is designed to help Level 1 coaches of proven ability to increase their knowledge and expertise in the Youth game of Rugby Union.

At the end of this course successful coaches will be able to apply a thorough understanding of all aspects of planning, coaching style, skill development, safety in contact and technical improvement to their coaching of players in the U13 – U19 age groups.

Entry requirements
Entry is offered to Level 1 coaches, who gain nomination from Chinnor Rugby Club in acknowledgement of their quality at Level 1, or their general coaching performance since obtaining Level 1.

Level 3, level 4 and level 5 Coaching

These are courses which allow competent coaches to develop towards the highest levels of expertise. Coaches will be expected to have or show career coach aspirations which are demonstrated through knowledge and learning capability.
