Chinnor RFC (Thame) has two thriving girls rugby squads, the under 17s covering school years 10 to 12, and the under 14s (new this season) covering school years 7 to 9.

The club is also working towards setting up a senior ladies team to start this season.

Both age groups are known as The Chinnor Chicks and have produced two under 19 England players in the last five years. Last season (2003/04) they were semi-finalists in the Girls under 16 National 7’s Tournament and twelve of the chicks represented the club at Regional level (RFUW. SE West) with three selected for England trials.

There are two RFU qualified coaches and two assistant coaches to train the squads, following the latest rules and directives laid down by the Rugby Football Union for Women (RFUW), to which, the club is affiliated.    

Coaching takes place on a Monday night 7:15 - 8:45 pm at Chinnor RFC, Kingsey Road, Thame, with matches taking place on either Sunday morning or afternoon.

Chinnor RFC adheres to the recent child protection directives, and all coaches are CRB checked.

The emphasis is on coaching rugby in a safe and enjoyable environment and to encourage and improve players of all abilities.

In line with this, there are two self-contained changing rooms with showers, built specifically with the girls in mind.

It's not just rugby!

Apart from enjoying a well earned drink after either a match or training, the Chicks have in the past visited the Twickenham Tour, Premiership matches and Women’s Six Nations matches. There is also an end of season dinner where various awards both serious and humorous are awarded.

The club holds various social events during the year, from discos to formal dinners and from race nights to pig roasts. There is even a resident Aunt Sally team.
