Wednesday 10th May 2006League Champion presentationsChinnor 1st, 2nd and 3rd XV receive their Championship trophies as winners of their respective leagues. To have the three top sides in the club win their league is a fantastic achievement and we believe we could be the first club to ever show this level of achievement.
Saturday 22nd April 20061st XV vs. Spartans SW (Away) - the final match of the season
Chinnor travel as league winners to Spartans in Gloucester on Saturday
for the final league game of the season .The team are determined to end
in style knowing that it will all be a little anti-climatic after the
pressure of recent weeks.
Coach Brodley has freshened up the team with the inclusion into the
starting line up of Tom Whelan at tight head, Eddie Devine to the back
row, Danny Burns at scrum half to partner Richard Williams at fly half
and Justin Hiscock on the right wing. He is confident the enthusiasm
these players bring to the team will spread to all the players which
should overcome any feelings they have of complacency.
The whole team will be watching the London Marathon with interest on
Sunday morning looking to spot open side wing forward Ed Rixon as he
makes his way round the capital's course. Good luck to him.
Joe Winpenny, JP Immelman, Tom Whelan, Craig Burrows (Capt), Matt
Hutchins, Raaki Maxwell, Eddie Devine, Paul Hennessy, Danny Burns, Richard
Williams, James Hewitt, Rewi Tolich, Darren Oxley, Justin Hiscock, Matt
Buckley Saturday 8th April 20061st XV vs. Maidenhead (Home) - THE REALLY BIG ONE!
Chinnor play Maidenhead at home on Saturday kicking off at 3:00pm
knowing that victory will secure the South West 1 Championship.
Paul Hennessey will captain the side in the absence of second row Craig
Burrows with Matt Hutchins taking his place in the scrummage. Ed Rixon
returns to strengthen the back row and James Hewitt has recovered
sufficiently from his hamstring problem to play full back and take on
the role as place kicker.
Coach Brodley is calling on his players to concentrate for the full game
on Saturday as he knows that Maidenhead are capable of exploiting any
lapse of focus. He believes his side have reached a new level in their
play at the sharp end of the season and is confident if they can adopt a
tough mental attitude combined with a relaxed style of play they can win
the game and with it promotion to the National leagues.
Brodley stated 'these types of games should bring out the best in the
players. The games with a bit of pressure are the enjoyable ones and the
reasons players play and coaches coach. I want the team and the whole
club to relax and savour the occasion.'

Buckley, Eric Brown, Sam Soane, Darren Oxley, Rewi Tolich, James Hewitt Saturday 25th March 20061st XV vs. Weston-Super-Mare (Away) - THE BIG ONE!
Chinnor travel to Weston Super Mare on Saturday knowing a victory will
move them one step closer to their stated aim at the beginning of the
season of National league rugby.
They are hoping to build on last weeks 17 - 8 home victory but are fully
aware that the task will be far more difficult away from home. Chinnor
make one change to the starting line up bringing in Matt Hutchins into
the 2nd row and moving Andy Milburn into the back row. This gives a
chance to young Eddie Devine who comes onto the bench after a series of
top performances in the seconds.
Coach Brodley is asking his players to be in control on Saturday both of
the ball and of their emotions. They hope to frustrate Weston and apply
pressure in all areas of the field. He expects his forwards to dominate
the set piece and his backs to test Weston with their direct running.

White Saturday 18th February 20061st XV vs. Clevedon (Away)
Chinnor travel away to Clevedon knowing that it is difficult ground
to play on. The home support is strong and vocal so the players will
have to be totally focussed and disciplined in order to win the
game.
Joe Winpenny returns in the front row and Coach Brodley keeps the
same back row opting to use the explosive running skills of Raakie
Maxwell and Rodney Mahe but with the luxury of an insurance policy
of having Paul Henessey on the bench if a change in strategy is
required.
Darren Oxley is replaced in the centre by Ali Reekie who moves from
the wing position to make way for speedster Jamie Hiscock who added
to his try tally again last week with his first touch of the ball.

Despite being at home Coach Brodley is expecting a tough fixture especially in the front row. He has selected the experienced Simon Mathews at loose head as a replacement for the unavailable Joe Winpenny.
Making his debut will be Rodney Mahe who has been signed from
Division 1 club Pertemps Bees. Rodney a Tongan international who
played against France in November is a strong tackling wing forward.
Brodley is expecting him to lift the team in the same way that
former wing forward Mike Cook did before being forced to retire with
a shoulder injury.

They have an immediate chance to redeem themselves against Reading Abbey at home this Saturday kicking off at 2:30pm.
The new half back pairing of Danny Burns and Matt Buckley will add
greater variety to the play and with the return of James Hewitt at
full back Chinnor have an experienced club player who understands
the game and Chinnor patterns of play.
Coach Brodley is expecting a tenacious forwrad battle and expects
Chinnor to have the upper hand but is asking for patience and
control from all his players as he is aware that Reading Abbey will
scrap for every ball and not give in until the final whistle.

Chinnor RFC entertain Spartans this Saturday at home looking for a 3
game winning streak before the Christmas break. Bob Harris returns to
the side to add his experience and scrummaging ability. Matt Hutchins
damaged a knee at Roslyn Park last week and is replaced by Andy Milburn.
Andy has put club before country as he was due to play for Denmark
against Switzerland on Saturday. Following on from his excellent
performance against Roslyn park Ali Reekie is in the starting line up
whilst on the bench fresh from the N.P.C. is New Zealand and Tongan
representative player Sam Soane

Chinnor travel to Reading Abbey on Saturday with 2 fresh faces in the
squad and 2 changes. On the bench are Academy prop Ian Stock who has
made an immediate impact in senior rugby and Danish international back
row recruit Mikail Rassmussen. Both scored 2 tries for the 2nd XV last
week. Ian is a product of the Chinnor student bursary scheme which aims
to support students through their chosen higher education and Mikail
came to the club via the clubs network of oversees player exchange
programme.
Into the team come hooker Dave Goddard and strengthening the back row is
Mike Cook. Coach Brodley is looking for a concentrated and focussed
perfrmance from the team and for each individual player to guard against
complacency as they play Reading Abbey who they beat by 39 points
earlier in the season.

Chinnor play bottom side Cheltenham at home this week kicking off at the
earlier time of 2:30pm. Despite their bottom of the table position
Cheltenham scored a good victory over Marlow in the intermediate cup
last week so coach Brodley is guarding against complacency.
He does not want the game to kick start Cheltenham's season and is
demanding his team have a ferocious but controlled start to the game.
Brodley is able to select from strength with all players available and
he has rewarded Adam White with a starting spot on the right wing.
Said Brodley 'Adam has alwys been a good young prospect for the club and
in recent weeks he has started to show his true potential. Last week he
scored all 23 points against Witney for the 2nd XV and he has trained
hard showing a real maturity. Competition is fierce for places at
Chinnor and Adam has forced his way into the side on merit.'

It is always difficult to travel into Cornwall and come away with the win. The team leave on Friday night at 6:00 pm and are staying in Launceston. Coach Brodley has asked for the same mental strength they showed against Clifton last week.
He is able to field the same starting XV. Joining the squad are Danny
Burns who has been hugely impressive both in the back row and at scrum
half and John David who is back to good form since suffering an ankle
injury - playing the round ball game

The home game against Clifton on Saturday will give a clear
indication of how much the 1st XV has developed since last season.
It is a contest between 1st and 2nd place in the league with both
clubs having the ambition of playing in the National leagues.
Whatever the result both coaches know the effects of our long season
and predicted harsh winter will test their squads and although the
result of this game is important it is not crucial.
Chinnor have chosen this game to re-instate Craig Burrows to the 2nd
row and to the captaincy. Andy Milburn has been moved to the bench
after some good performances which highlights the strength in depth
at Chinnor.
Coach Brodley is confident that his squad is as strong as any in the
league and fully expects to survive the winter pushing for
promotion.
