Chicks Bracknell

Mid Warwickshire Comets U17's 5 vs. Chinnor Chicks U17's 22
Sunday 24th October 2004

This was the Chicks first game of the season and although the starting line up was relatively experienced with the rule changes in the U17's game some of the girls were playing in new positions.
The forwards also had to come to terms with a competitive scrum and lifting in the line out, however clearly this was the same for both teams. So it was no surprise that the game started somewhat tentatively with both teams being a little rusty and having to find their feet. As the first half wore on the Chicks forwards began to dominate in the rucks and mauls which created space for the backs. This was utilised twice, with fly half Olivia Jack going over for two tries one of which was converted by Dominee Sewell. Half Time Comets 0 Chicks 12.

In the second half the Chicks, and their forwards in particular, turned the screw even more with the Comets hardly ever getting out of their half. Only some bad luck and wasteful finishing prevented the Chicks scoring a further two tries, both again by Olivia Jack. A break out by the Comets saw them score a very late consolation try. Final Score Comets 5 Chicks 22. A pleasing first game with much promise shown.
