“That’s what you get when
you stop concentrating; you loose control & possession up-front &
allow the opposition to put you on the back foot.” The words of
Chinnor's Director of Rugby Lyn Evans after his side had squandered
a 29 points lead.
Thanks to a superb
forward platform and some outstanding kicking from fly half James
Cathcart, the visitors went into half time with an 18-3 lead. Six
Cathcart penalties, two from over 45 metres; a third sailed between
the posts but was so high over them, that the referee overruled the
two touch judges who signalled success (even Bill Allen (Quins TJ)
wiped his glasses and shook his head !!). Andy Noyce kicked the
Quins penalty.
Chinnor flew into the 2nd
half. First a forwards try given to Ed Rixon. Then a minute later
winger Chad Ward seized on an interception and raced in from half
way. Cathcart converted both.
The superb Quins fight
back began in the 56th minute with a converted try by
Clinton Serle followed by unconverted tries from Sean Baxter & Elio
Rechia. 32 points to 20 and eleven minutes to go.
In between Chinnor used
replacements – Alan Cawston for Darren Oxley; Mat Hutchins & Jo
Winpenny for Craig Burrows and Rob Harris.
Decisive score came in 75th
minute with an Alan Cawston try converted by Cathcart.
Consolation try came for
Quins in the 3rd minute of injury time from replacement
Charlie Mawle.
Man of the Match – Fly half James
Cathcart with his excellent
kicking skills and 24 points.
